This server is a towny survival smp where you build and grow your own town and play with other people. It feels like a chill place where builders grinders and pvp players can all hang out together.
You can level up skills with mcMMO so the more you play the stronger your character gets. There is a jobs system too so you earn money by doing different tasks instead of just getting free cash. The economy is meant to be fair with no pay to win and no super overpowered crates.
If you like pvp there is a kitpvp arena that is made to be balanced so fights feel more about skill than gear. If you just want to build you can focus on your town and slowly expand it with your friends.

This is a semi anarchy raiding survival server that has been running since 2011. It feels really old school and there is almost no staff stuff getting in the way.
You can raid and grief other players and there are no land claims or base protection. Lapis is used like money here. You can set a home and use tpa so you can move around the map and visit people if they accept.
The world is normal vanilla generation and the difficulty is hard. The End gets reset on the first day of every month so it is a bad idea to build a base there. Players can collect spawners too.
There are some rules. You cannot use hacks macros or mods that are not on the permitted list. You also cannot abuse duplication bugs except for TNT rails carpet string and tripwire hooks. You have to listen to admins and mods when they tell you to do something.
Most people who play are from North America but anyone can join. Some players are friendly and helpful and some are pretty toxic because there is not much moderation. If someone is annoying you can use the ignore command on them.
Overall it is a rough server where you have to hide your stuff raid other people and just survive in a hard world with very little protection.

I found this server called Anarchy Network and it is a semi anarchy Minecraft world that feels really close to vanilla survival. It launched on October 11th 2024 and it is always online so you can hop on any time.
You can join on Java from version 1.7.2 all the way up to 1.21.10. They say it is best if you use 1.21.10 so stuff does not break. The world border is huge at two million blocks so there is a ton of room to explore and hide.
The rules are super light. Griefing and PvP are totally allowed and there are no map resets and no teleport commands and no pay to win at all. The only command you get that is not vanilla is spawn so you can get back to civilization if you go super far. You can also use the nether roof and phantoms are removed and only about half the players need to sleep to skip the night.
There are a few things that are not allowed. You cannot use exploits or lag machines or duping. You also cannot spam chat or use harassment or racial slurs. So the world is harsh but the basic behavior rules still exist.
If you like pure survival with chaos and big journeys and almost no rules this server fits that style a lot.

LiusMC is a survival multiplayer server that feels pretty chill but still serious. It is semi vanilla so the game mostly feels like normal Minecraft with some extra protection and rules so people can play fair.
There is regular PvP so you always have to watch your back. The server has strict anti cheat rules and hacked clients are not allowed. Spawn and player bases are protected so your builds feel safe.
The community is friendly and active and the staff are helpful and around a lot. It feels like the kind of SMP where you can relax and play survival with other people without dealing with a ton of drama.

This is a 1.21.11 Java server that feels really relaxed and cozy. It is hosted in the UK and it is online all the time so it is extra good for players in the UK and Europe.
The server is for people 16 and older and most of the players are over 21. There are around 20 to 25 active players and they just chill and play Minecraft a lot. It feels like a small group where people know each other.
The world is built around different themed areas. There is Sol which has an ancient style with Aztec and Egypt builds. There is Greenland with an underground theme. Extora is more sci fi and magic. Latvia is medieval. Metrovia is a modern city. There is also an Asian area with temple style builds. The goal is to make huge immersive places together.
The server keeps a vanilla feel even though there are some gamerule changes and plugins. There is no teleport and no home commands so you play in a pretty classic way.
