Ordinary SMP is a vanilla Java survival server that feels like a small friendly neighborhood. It is whitelisted so the players are more serious about actually playing and being respectful. Everyone joins to build explore and just hang out together.
The server runs on Minecraft Java 1.21.11 and they like to stay up to date. It is survival but the staff use tools like Ledger to check grief or theft so your builds are protected. That makes it feel safe to build big bases and long projects.
The community works on cool group builds and server wide events like pvp battles build contests and big projects. There is a custom resource pack that gives special cosmetics trophies and event rewards and it follows a HermitCraft type theme. Players can even share ideas for more custom items.
There are some nice quality of life features. BlueMap lets you see an interactive map of the world. Simple VoiceChat lets people talk in game instead of just typing. There is AudioPlayer for custom audio and the dragon can drop elytras so end game travel is easier.

DeadMan's Land is a classic factions server that is all about survival and pvp. It feels really intense because the whole idea is that only the strong players last and the weak ones get wiped.
You can join a faction or make your own and then start building up your base and your power. People form alliances and also betray each other so it is always interesting. The main thing is to raid other factions fight over land and try to control more territory.
There are custom events that keep the server active and the pvp is set up to feel balanced. It is not super peaceful at all. The style is more like kill or be killed and the goal is to conquer other players and become the strongest group on the server.

SnowFallSMP is a small semi vanilla server where a bunch of friends just play Minecraft together and hang out. Everyone has different play styles so you see all kinds of stuff happening at once.
There are adventurers running around the world, collectors grabbing every item they can, fighters and advancement hunters going for goals, plus builders, entrepreneurs and farmers making cool bases and shops. During busy times there are usually a handful of people online all mining crafting building and chatting.
The rules are pretty simple. It is a 16 plus server. You have to be respectful to other players and their builds and the shared community areas. There is no hacking or griefing or vandalism. No stealing and no PVP or anarchy stuff. They also do not allow content creation to help keep minors safe.
