Ordinary SMP is a vanilla Java survival world that feels like a small friendly neighborhood. Players from all over join to build explore and hang out together. It is whitelisted so the community stays respectful and chill.
The server stays updated to the latest version so right now it is on 1.21.11 with all the new features. People work on builds and also team up on big community projects. It has a HermitCraft inspired style with players who actually like to collaborate.
There is grief protection using a system that can check what happened so if someone griefs or steals staff can investigate and keep builds safe. The server has BlueMap so you can view the world on a live map and see what everyone is building.
There is Simple VoiceChat so people can talk in game and an AudioPlayer plugin for custom audio. The server also has dragon elytra drops so beating the dragon feels even more rewarding.
They use a custom resource pack that adds special cosmetics trophies and event rewards that match the theme. Players can even suggest ideas for new custom items. There are server wide events like pvp battles build contests and big community projects so there is usually something going on.
If you like building exploring redstone or just chilling with other players this server is made for that kind of playstyle.

PurpleSMP is a small survival server that feels really calm and safe. It runs the newer version of Minecraft so you can just chill build and enjoy the game without stressing about griefers or random pvp.
The server is focused on PvE and you can turn PvP on or off yourself with a command. Land claims keep your base protected and the staff log every block placed and broken so they can see what happened if someone tries to cause trouble.
There is mcMMO so you can level up skills and do fun things like faster tree chopping. You also get PlayerVaults so you have extra storage when your normal inventory is full. The server has a Bluemap so you can look at the world like a map in your browser.
They take cheating seriously and use a strong anti cheat. When someone sets it off staff get pinged right away and the plugin reacts until a staff member can check it.
PurpleSMP started as a friends only world and then opened to the public. The owner says they never plan to reset so it is meant to be a forever world where your builds can stay as long as the server is alive.

This is a semi vanilla SMP that feels like a small friendly neighborhood. The world is pretty new and the server usually has around ten to fifteen people online.
Everyone seems really relaxed and people like building near each other. Neighbors are welcome if you ask first and players visit each others bases a lot. People trade items help with projects and share stuff when someone needs it.
The server runs on hard mode and uses a few plugins but you can turn them off if you want to play more vanilla. There is a shopping district starting up and the nether was opened recently so players are building a nether hub now. The end is not open yet.
They only want people who actually want to be good friends and part of the community and not just grab stuff and disappear.

This server is a shared survival world that does not use land claims.
Instead of empty borders and locked chests everywhere players actually live close together. People build near each other and talk and trade so the world feels alive and not like singleplayer with chat.
The server runs hard difficulty with vanilla gameplay. There are no donations or paid perks or monetization stuff. Rules are enforced the same for everyone and that keeps griefing rare because everyone knows what is allowed.
You can join and explore right away. To fully interact and break blocks you read the rules on their Discord so new players start with the same expectations as everyone else.
It is for Java and also Bedrock so more friends can play together. The whole idea is that community protects your base instead of claim blocks.

GildedAbyss is a new modded SMP that is all about the community and how everyone interacts with the world. The server is still very fresh and they are planning Season 1 based on how many people join. There will be events and new stuff added even before the official opening so it feels like the server is growing with the players.
The world has tons of new places to explore with mods like Biomes o Plenty and Terralith. It feels way more adventurous than normal Minecraft. There are also special items you can get through certain methods so you always have something to work toward.
One of the coolest things is Ancestral Archetypes where you choose a sub race in game and use it to your advantage. Progression is also changed with immersive ores that add more ores and new tools and weapons so mining and upgrading feels more fun.
The server uses the Create mod so people can build all kinds of machines as long as they are reasonable. The owner wants lots of suggestions from players and plans to host many events once the server really starts so there should be a lot of group activities.
To join you have to use a ticket system to get whitelisted. You talk with the owner or a moderator and if they think you fit the community they add you. It feels like they want a good friendly group instead of random chaos.
