The World of Starknight is the oldest Xbox city server, now available on Java. Since 2012, the community has been building a grand city with its own economy and an intricate story mode experience. If city roleplay is not your style, you can jump into an MMO economy survival world instead. For players seeking a real challenge, there is also a hardcore apocalypse survival mode where you must fight through the ruins of a city and survive hordes of zombies with guns. NotHermitcraft is a community run Vanilla SMP that has been around since 2019. They are recruiting new members for their newly started Season 5 and they want people to stay close and connected so it feels like a Hermitcraft style server.
The server is Java 1.21.11 and it is hosted in WA USA. The player base is from all over the world and the ages range from about 14 to 50ish. There are builders redstoners and role players and the Discord is very active with a bot that lets people chat with the server.
Season 5 is planned to last 2 to 3 years so it is meant to be a long term world. There is also an older world called season 4ever that has been up for over 3 years and it stays available as a sub server.

PCSMP is a Pixel Craft SMP style server built for players who want a super competitive survival grind. The main thing is Lifesteal where you kill players to steal their hearts and if you lose all your hearts you get eliminated.
It has an auction house so players can buy and sell items with each other. It also has an orders plugin where you complete player orders to get money and rewards.

The Pen MC is a classic prison server that feels like the 2014 style. It is barebones and grindy and you do not get overpowered armor right away. There is no instant selling so you mine then smelt your ores and you have to travel through pvp areas to sell and stay alive.
You rank up from A to H and then you can reach Parole. After you max out you can prestige and pick different ways to keep progressing. You can stick to mining or go into a custom fishing path or fight waves in a mob arena with boss fights. There is also a bakery setup where you farm wheat and cocoa then bake cookies with custom mechanics and do long term cookie quests and leaderboards.
It also has illegal crops that are high risk and high reward and there are guards that enforce contraband rules. You can rent cells and plots and use an auction house plus player shops. There are bounties and solitary confinement and some parkour challenges too.

RevivalSMP is a survival server with custom lifesteal. If you kill someone you can steal hearts. If you die you lose hearts. When you hit 0 hearts you do not get banned and you become a ghost instead.
A player can visit your grave and give up one of their own hearts to revive you. Enemies can also loot your grave chest if they have a Graveyard Key. If nobody revives you then you stay stuck in the Graveyard for 5 real days and then you auto revive.
It also has a duels system with 1v1 arena fights and ranked leaderboards and you do not lose hearts there. There is a bounty system so players can put a price on someone and hunters can go after them.
There are Community Worlds where players can upload a world invite friends toggle PvP and build with full creative freedom. There is also an AFK World that is a safe zone for going AFK.
The server supports Java and Bedrock crossplay. It has cosmetics and ranks like trails wings halos and glow effects. The world border is huge at 60 million by 60 million. AetheriaSMP is a plain vanilla Minecraft server with a friendly community that keeps growing. It has an active mod team so if something goes wrong there are people around to help.
This server is big on keeping your stuff safe. If someone steals your items or messes up your base the staff can use Core Protect to find who did it and roll back the damage fast.
PVP is only allowed if both players agree to it. If you get killed for no reason the team can help get your items back and punish the player who started it.
