Sunset Retreat SMP is an EU based seasonal survival server with a vanilla plus feel and it is for players who are 18 and up.
It is whitelisted and the community is meant to be chill and inclusive so people can relax and meet new friends.
The owners stay engaged and they actually play while keeping things updated and managed.
It keeps gameplay close to vanilla but adds a few quality of life extras like voice chat player and mob heads a map and Bedrock compatibility.

It is trying to be super friendly with no griefing and no toxicity. Keep inventory is on so you do not lose your stuff when you die. Claims are enabled so your builds can stay safe.

I found a hardcore anarchy SMP where dying makes you permanently lose two hearts. If you die five times you get auto banned so every fight matters.
It tries to feel like a popular SMP but with no whitelist stuff at all. You just join and play.
Gameplay stays basically vanilla with only a minimal plugin setup. There are no land claims no teleports and no shop perks you can buy.
The vibe is risky and chaotic since people can find you and take everything. You can also hide and stay safe but it can get lonely.

Northwoods is a Towny SMP style server that is still early and looking for a small handful of players to help test gameplay and performance.
The world and your progress are not getting reset so what you build and earn will stick around.
It runs Towny with chat support plus stuff like levelled mobs shopkeepers simple jobs and a custom terrain generator. There is also Distant Horizons support and a custom CurseForge pack with Distant Horizons and a few client side mods.

Kingdom Of The Damned is a persistent survival world where the players shape what happens over time. It is a Vanilla+ SMP so it tries to keep Minecraft feeling familiar while still adding more depth.
Survival matters here and progression is earned. The world changes because of what people do not because of scripted systems. There are no minigames or separate modes so everyone shares the same survival experience.
The server leans into better survival and more exploring plus building tools and some quality of life changes. The mods are picked to stay balanced for multiplayer and to keep the server running smooth for a long term world.
