Sunset Retreat SMP is a seasonal vanilla plus server that is made for players who are 18 and older. It is based in the EU and it is whitelisted so the community stays calm and mature.
The server keeps the game mostly vanilla but adds a few quality of life things. There is voice chat so people can talk. There are mob and player heads. There is a diamond based economy with player run shops so players can trade stuff and services.
The owners are active on the server and they actually play. They work on updates and management and they stay involved with the community.

Ordinary SMP is a vanilla Java survival server that feels like a small friendly town. It is whitelisted so the community stays respectful and chill and people actually care about their builds.
The server is always updated and right now it runs on version 1.21.11 with all the new features. It has grief protection using tools that let staff check player activity so if someone steals or breaks stuff they can see what happened and help fix it.
There is a tight knit group of players from different places who like to build explore and work together on community projects. There are server wide events like pvp fights building contests and big group builds so there is usually something going on if you want to join in.

ZoritLegends is running a multi stage event that mixes PvP and parkour so it feels really intense and fun at the same time.
There is an arena for players who like fighting and there are parkour courses that look pretty challenging. It is set up so different skills matter a lot and you can try to be good at everything or just go crazy in the part you like most.
The event has a big prize pool. First place gets a huge pile of money and a bunch of zPoints. Second and third place also get a lot of rewards so it feels worth trying even if you are not sure you can win.

This server is called MineRealm and it is one of the longest running SMP servers I have seen. It has been online since 2010 and more than two hundred thousand players have joined over the years. The world is smaller at first and slowly expands so new land always uses the latest Minecraft version.
The gameplay is focused on survival and is fully legit. There is no pay to win and no item spawning. Everything you see was gathered and built by players. There are no fancy spawned in hubs or prefab structures so the whole world feels really player made.
MineRealm uses a classic plot system and grief protection so your builds stay safe. They have their own protection plugin and also use CoreProtect so griefing is not really a thing here. The server tries to stay close to vanilla but adds a few custom plugins to make community stuff and long term survival feel better.
Another cool thing is they do not reset the world. So if you build something big it will stay there for the long run. There is also public infrastructure already developed to help new and old players travel and grow.
Overall the community feels dedicated and welcoming and the server is made for people who like long term survival and a stable world that does not just restart all the time.

Anarchy Network is a semi anarchy Minecraft server that tries to keep the game close to vanilla. It launched on October 11th 2024 and runs on a host in New York City.
The gameplay is simple survival with very few rules. Griefing is allowed and pvp is allowed so you always have to watch your back. There is no pay to win and there are no map resets so your builds and bases can last as long as you can protect them.
You can join on most Java versions from 1.7.2 up to 1.21.10 but the server recommends you use 1.21.10 so you do not have issues. The world border is set to 2 million blocks so there is a ton of space to explore.
The server has almost no commands. There is no normal teleporting but you can use spawn so players far away are not totally alone. Nether roof access is allowed and phantoms are removed and only half the players online are needed to skip the night.
There are a few basic rules so the server does not get ruined. Exploits are not allowed and lag machines and dupes are not allowed. Spamming and harassment and racial slurs in chat are also not allowed. Besides that the world is pretty much open and players can do what they want.
