I found a small friendly Towny SMP server called GamerHub Towny and it is made for chilling out. The rules are simple and strict about no griefing and no stealing. There are also no custom items and they say there will never be resets.
People mostly play to build up towns and try to compete for money and ranks. It has Towny for claiming land and growing your town. It also has Jobs plus MCMMO and an in game ranking system.
There is a dynmap so you can see the world. Players can set warps and run player shops. There is also a server shop that is sell only. The community is welcoming and active across AU EU and US timezones and it can hit over 20 players at peak times. People can team up trade raid and start rivalries on their own. Hacked clients and unfair advantage mods are not allowed.
There is Simple Voice Chat on the server. Griefing close to spawn is not allowed within 1k and mods handle it instead of claim plugins.
