It was started by a postgraduate medievalist and it feels like old school survival with more danger and more mystery. The server is based in Australia and people also play from Europe the Americas and Asia.
The world is handmade and the rules are meant to make things harder and slow down progression. It pushes you away from exploit style play and makes creativity and teamwork matter more. Players win by doing brave stuff making deals building big churches and hidden groves and raising cities and fortresses then getting other players to follow them.
