Determinacy is a Minecraft server that is all about no rules and pure vanilla.
The world started in June 2020 and the idea is to keep it going for a really long time. It is not trying to be some huge server. It feels more like a world that just stays up so players can do whatever they want.

The New Life SMP is a survival server that tries really hard to feel like a real community and not just a world where everyone plays alone. When I joined it felt like every player mattered and people actually talked and worked together.
The server runs on version 1.21.10 for both Java and Bedrock. It has Simple Voice Chat so talking to other players is super easy and way more fun than just typing. The economy is run by the players so trading and shops feel important and not just extra stuff.
There are custom enchantments and balanced progression with armor upgrading templates so you still feel like you are moving forward but not instantly overpowered. No one is treated like they are better than anyone else and everyone is supposed to be on the same level.
They do monthly events and expand the world border so there is always something new to explore. The server is community driven and feels active and alive even outside the game.
Season 2 started recently so it is a good time to join early and grow with everyone from the start.

I found this server called The Tavern and it is a fresh vanilla SMP that started about a week ago. It already has a bunch of players and it can hit over twenty people online and still stay smooth with basically no lag.
The server is fully vanilla so it feels like normal Minecraft but with a lot of people around. They keep it up all the time so you can hop on whenever. There is a live map website you can look at and also a stats site so you can see things like how many blocks you placed.
They let redstone builds happen and they also allow things like litematica and minimaps. There are no server resets and there is no world border so you can just keep going and make big bases and farms without worrying it will all get wiped.
The community is really friendly and they do community projects and events. There is a Christmas tree building contest starting soon which sounds fun. It has a Hermitcraft style vibe with people working together but still doing their own thing. There is proximity voice chat so you can talk when you get close to other players in game which makes it feel more alive.
If you want a chill vanilla SMP with events and long term worlds this server fits that really well.

I found this survival server that feels pretty wild and also really active. It is a classic style world with no hacks allowed and only a few small plugins so it still feels like real vanilla Minecraft.
The map has been around for over six years so there is a ton of history and old bases and random chaos everywhere. You can tell players have been building and fighting here for a long time.
The community feels tight and people seem to know each other already but new players can still jump in. They run events and even keep a wiki page and lists of allowed clients and mods so it is not just random it is organized too.
You can do almost anything. Build crazy bases fight other players trade with people grief explore weird ruins or just stand around and talk nonsense in chat. The world is basically a sandbox for whatever playstyle you like.
