This server is a hardcore SMP that is made to feel like those big civilization experiments you see on YouTube but it is always online instead of just being an event.
The server is invite only. Only players who are already inside can invite new people. This makes the world grow kind of like real life and it helps keep trolls out and keeps the community active.
There are a bunch of secret tweaks and mechanics added to the game. There are no guides for them. You have to figure them out yourself just by paying attention and playing a lot. It makes the world feel fresh even if you already know normal Minecraft.
The server has a built in clan and family system. You do not just spawn alone on a hardcore world. You join as part of a clan and a family and a bigger story that started before you and will keep going after you. Most clans are looking for more members so new players can try to find a group that wants them.
If you want to join you need to talk to current players and see if someone is willing to share their personal invitation code. There is a wiki page that explains how those codes work and how to use them.

This is an Earth SMP where everyone loves to build cool stuff and chill together. The world is a scaled down version of the real map so you can pick a spot on the globe and start a city town or some giant project.
There are already big builds like a modern city that feels like NYC with skyscrapers and some older European style towns. There is still a lot of open land if you want to start something new from scratch or just expand what other players started.
The server has proximity voice chat so people can talk when they are close in game. There is also dynmap so you can see the world growing from a map view. It supports both Java and Bedrock with cross play plus there are custom heads image maps and armor stands so builders can add tons of small details.
The community is really relaxed and people usually stick around. Players build together hang out and do not take things too seriously. The rules are simple do not grief and do not cheat and you are good to go.

The Perch is a Minecraft SMP that tries really hard to feel like a second home. It is made for people who want to play survival for a long time and not worry about random resets or drama.
The server focuses a lot on what the community wants. The staff talk with players a bunch through suggestions tickets and feedback forms. They even post weekly change logs so you can see what changed and they host monthly events to bring everyone together.
The gameplay is survival but with smart tweaks. They try to keep the normal survival feel and think about how every change affects players each day. If there is a feature you do not like you can turn it off. Farms and redstone builds are meant to work like they do in the normal game.
There is a ranking system that goes up based on how long you play so you unlock perks just by being active. The economy is set up to be fair with lots of player run shops. There are also small changes that just make the game nicer to play and a web map so you can look at all the worlds.
Overall it feels like a calm non toxic place where the community actually matters and you can settle in for a long survival journey.

This is a semi vanilla SMP called WhimsyWillow and it feels pretty cozy. The server is still kind of new so there is a lot of fresh land to explore. The terrain generation is really cool and there are over 100 different biomes so it always feels like you are finding something new.
The community is small but the people seem nice and pretty chill. They also use optional origins so if you want a little twist to your gameplay you can pick one but you do not have to. The server border keeps expanding so even old players get new places to explore.
There are rules against griefing and some extra rules too so it stays a safe place to build and hang out. You can basically go crazy with your ideas without worrying someone will ruin it.
The owners keep adding new content and they run events to make the server more fun and keep it community based. To join you just apply through their discord with a short application and they really want you to read the application carefully.

This is a small modded Minecraft server with around ten active people. They play on a modpack called Ciscos Dragonfyre and they added a few extra mods to help with the server economy.
Some quests are tweaked so things feel more spicy and not boring. The server likes new ideas and they seem really open to people who want to build stuff together or just hang out.
The community sounds friendly and chill. They are fine with some random pvp once in a while as long as everyone is just having fun.
You have to get whitelisted before you can join.
