I found a modded server called Mech Rehabilitated that is built for a fun and friendly small community. It sounds like the kind of place you hop on after work or classes and just chill with people.
The modpack is huge with over 300 mods so there is a lot to do. The vibe is exploration and looting giant structures then fighting bosses and chasing that infinite power feeling.
If you are more of a humble farmer type there are lots of cooking recipes too. The post mentions mods like Create Alexs Mobs and Caves Terramity Farmers Delight with a bunch of addons Cataclysm Etched and Littlepictureframes for community movie nights.
The server just came back with a brand new version of the modpack and a clean slate. To join you fill out a short whitelist form and they review it.
