I found a survival civilization server that is all about politics that actually matter. It just opened early access and it wants founding players to start towns and shape the world.
You can found a town and pick how it is run. There are five government types and each one changes costs like upkeep land claims and expansion. Some are cheap but you have to follow votes and some let you rule harder but it drains your treasury.
Elections are a big deal because they use ranked choice voting. Your vote weight depends on how long you lived there how much gold you put into the treasury and if you have been active lately. There is also a cap so one person cannot take over everything.
Towns build tension over time and it can lead to big problems. If things get bad impeachment petitions can start and residents can defect or towns can try to split away from their nation. You cannot just take power and go AFK.
Nations can also siege enemy towns during scheduled weekend battle sessions. If you win you plunder the town and occupy it and take part of their daily resource production. The server runs on Java 1.21.6+ and it is on Folia.
