I found a modded Minecraft server that is doing a zombie apocalypse modpack on Forge. It is built for people who want to actually stick around and play not just quit after the first day.

It uses Create with heavy addons so you can automate a lot and build big train networks. Combat is not vanilla because it uses firearm mods plus big cannons for sieges and artillery.
There are also air and ground vehicles for battles and moving supplies. Proximity voice chat is enabled so diplomacy and squad comms are a big part of the vibe.

This is a modded server that is all about war with guns and crazy machines. When I joined I saw people using guns planes helicopters and tanks and it looked like a huge battle.
The main goal here is to make war fights fun but not totally miserable. Griefing is not always allowed. It is mostly allowed during wars so the whole world does not get wrecked for no reason.
Over one thousand people have joined this server already so it feels like one of the biggest modded gun servers I have seen. There are lots of players who like modern gameplay with modern guns and vehicles and it feels really active.
