This is a vanilla SMP called GOOMB and the world just got reset so everything feels new again. The world uses amplified terrain so the mountains and cliffs look super crazy and people keep posting cool screenshots.
Right now there is a 2k by 2k border so everyone is kind of close together and you see tiny starter bases everywhere. Because of that people end up building near each other or teaming up which makes it feel like a real little town. UneasyVanilla is a semi anarchy vanilla server that tries to stay close to the original idea of Minecraft. It runs on version 1.21.8 and the world has been around for more than four years.
When you first join you will spawn in a crazy mess of lavacasts and griefed terrain. Spawn is totally wrecked and it feels wild. You have to find your way out and then you can go explore and build bases far away.
The server is a mix of survival and chaos. People can fight raid and grief so you really need to think about where you build and who you trust. Even with that the community feels pretty relaxed and kind of tight knit.
There are rules but they are simple. The idea is to keep the server fair and running well instead of stopping normal survival and anarchy style gameplay. Staff are active and they ban cheaters and try to keep the gameplay honest.

I found this server called Anarchy Network and it is a semi anarchy world that tries to feel like normal vanilla Minecraft but with barely any rules.
The server started on October 11th 2024 and it runs all the time. You can join with almost any Java version from 1.7.2 up to 1.21.10 but they say 1.21.10 is best so you do not have issues.
The world is huge with a border at 2 million blocks so people can go really far out. There are no map resets and no teleporting at all and no pay to win stuff. Griefing and PvP are totally allowed so you always have to watch your back.
The only extra command they let you use is spawn so people who went really far away are not stuck alone forever. Nether roof travel is allowed and phantoms are turned off and only half the online players are needed to skip the night which makes survival less annoying.
They do have some rules. You cannot use exploits or lag machines or duping. You also cannot spam chat or use harassment or racial slurs. So it is still a wild server but they try to keep it from getting totally ruined.
Overall it feels like a raw survival world where the players control almost everything and the staff only step in when someone is breaking the game or being super toxic.

Everyone is expected to be kind. Bullying is not allowed at all. It really feels like a server that wants you to relax and have fun with other players who actually respect each other.

Cozyvale is a new survival server that is totally vanilla but also has some nice quality of life tweaks. From what I can see the owners are a small group of friends who want an 18 plus community that feels chill and cozy.
The server is about simple survival with other people. You still walk or ride everywhere because there is no teleport. There are no land claims or pay to win stuff so it feels more like a normal world where people just trust each other and build together.
Some of the features are things like only half the people online need to sleep for night to pass and leaves disappear faster after you chop trees. There is a simple voice mod and a dynmap so you can see the world from a map view. You can get player and mob heads as drops and you can turn concrete in cauldrons. There is also reduced mob grief so creepers and other mobs do not wreck builds as bad.
They are also looking for builders who want to help create spawn the shopping district and other big community areas. If you like helping build public places this server seems like it really wants that.
Overall the server feels like it is trying to be a cozy vanilla world for adults who want to relax explore and build together without crazy plugins.

This server feels like an old school vanilla world that never really stopped. The world started in 2011 so you can find really old terrain and ruins and then run into newer areas if you explore far enough. Spawn is in an ocean biome so you have to swim or use a boat just to even find land which makes the start feel like a little adventure.
The gameplay is mostly pure survival with just a few datapacks that make life easier. You can set homes with triggers and warp back to spawn and you can have up to 10 homes. There is nothing extra that changes terrain or adds crazy items. Sometimes player heads and mob heads can drop when you fight which is fun to collect.
The community is a small group of long time friends and most players are in their mid twenties or older. People are mostly from the US with some Russian and Polish speakers too. The rules are super simple. Treat people with respect and do not try to crash the server. Besides that almost anything is allowed so griefing and hacked clients are okay if you still respect others.
The server is always running the newest Minecraft snapshot so you get new features right away. It feels relaxed and unstructured and it is good if you just want to play classic survival with a world that has a lot of history already.
