ArcticMC is a new SMP survival server that mixes Towny and factions. You can build a town and claim land then team up with allies or try to take control of your own area.
PVP matters here but they also run an honor system. The rules explain how it works so fights do not turn into total chaos.
It also has McMMO skills so you level up while you play and unlock special abilities as you progress. The world uses Tectonic generation so the terrain looks more realistic with big mountains and valleys.
There are custom items too like furniture that is entity based. They plan to set per chunk limits to help with lag. The community is described as calm and friendly and more about relaxing and exploring than constant drama.
