MinedHype SMP is a chill public survival server that has been running for years. It is mostly vanilla so it feels like normal Minecraft but on a big world with other players.
There is no pay to win and there is no money plugin. You protect your stuff using land claims and grief is only allowed if the area is not claimed. CoreProtect is used so the staff can see what happened if something goes wrong.
The server runs on Minecraft 1.21.11 and supports both Java and Bedrock in the same world. There is no whitelist so you can just join and start playing. The overworld and nether are long term and are not planned to reset which is awesome if you like building big bases.
You spawn randomly inside a big area and you can use rtp to teleport even farther to find a good spot then set a home. There is also a public shopping district that anyone can apply to build in so players can trade using their own system.
The server has an online map you can view and there are free events with prizes. Chat reports are disabled and the rules and extra info are on their website so you can read everything before you join.

This is a hard difficulty semi vanilla smp that feels really close to singleplayer. The server is tuned for performance so you get good view distance and simulation distance and the gameplay still feels smooth.
The main focus is on vanilla mechanics and build freedom. Redstone farms and mega projects are welcome and there is a big world border that gives a lot of space. Vanilla spawn mechanics and mob farm mechanics are kept so technical players can build all their cool stuff.

Foggy Willows is a server for people who really want normal Minecraft with nothing extra. It runs on the regular minecraft server jar and has no plugins and no datapacks. It just feels like playing singleplayer but with other people around.

This is a server for people who are tired of boring worlds that die in a week. It is made so you can play how you want without a ton of rules or staff yelling at you.

This server is called MistyMC and it is seriously pure vanilla. There are no teleport commands and no pay to win stuff so everyone has to actually play the game. You mine and build everything yourself and it really feels like classic Minecraft.
The world is long term and they do not reset it all the time. So if you grind for two months your progress will still be there. It is a real grind but that is kind of the point and it feels worth it when you finally get good gear and cool bases.
They let both Java and Bedrock players join which is nice because you can play with more friends. The community feels pretty inclusive and people seem to play fair and respect each other. If you want a simple survival world that is actually vanilla and not full of plugins then this server fits that really well.

Luminary Falls is a long term Minecraft survival server that feels really cozy and relaxed. It is made for adults only and the community is friendly and feels pretty mature. People play from all around the world so there is usually someone online no matter what time it is.

I found this server called Anarchy Network and it is a semi anarchy Minecraft world that tries to feel like pure vanilla. It launched on October 11th 2024 and runs all the time.
You can join on Java versions from 1.7.2 up to 1.21.10 and they say 1.21.10 is best so stuff does not break. The world border is massive and goes out to 2 million blocks so there is tons of space to run and hide.
There are no map resets and no teleport commands so you actually have to travel. There is no pay to win and griefing and pvp are totally allowed so bases are never really safe. The only special command is spawn so people way out can get back to other players. Nether roof travel is allowed and phantoms are turned off and only half the server has to sleep to skip the night.
They still have a few rules so it is not total chaos. You cannot use exploits or dupes or lag machines. You also cannot spam or use harassment or racial slurs in chat. So the server is wild but not totally toxic.
Overall it feels like a survival world where players control everything and staff just stop the super broken stuff.

AvalonEarth is an earth smp server with a 1 to 500 world map so there is a lot of space to make your own nation and claim land.
The server uses Towny and is made for geopolitics style gameplay. Anyone can make a nation because you get starter money when you join. You do not have to grind and meet a bunch of player requirements just to start.
This is the second season of the server. The first season started in September and they built a strong community. Now season two is open and many new players are joining.
There are lots of conflicts and wars for players who like pvp and strategy. If you do not like fighting you can still live more peaceful and try to avoid the wars.
You can earn money mainly with jobs farming and fishing. The owner says they plan to add more ways to make money soon.

Iperios is a survival server where players build nations and fight for power. It feels a bit like a mix of war and politics because you do not just live alone. You create a nation or join one and then you can make your own government and your own laws and ranks.
The server is all about geopolitics. There are resource camps that your nation can conquer. When you control them you start getting special geopolitical resources. These help your nation grow and expand into new territories. There are many different resources and buildings you can work toward and there is a full list and active support on their discord.
McMMO is a big part of the combat so the more you play the stronger your skills get. You can also use custom enchants to get better gear for wars. Other plugins like Dynmap and GriefPrevention help with exploring and protecting your stuff. There is also SilkSpawner and standard survival tools like Essentials.
To get in you first join their discord and ask for whitelist. After that you get the server info and a staff member guides you when you join. New players get a beginner kit so you are not totally lost. Then you are free to build your nation or help someone else rule the world.
