I found a community centered survival server that feels a lot like a Hermitcraft style SMP. It is made by players for players and they try hard to keep the vanilla experience while still adding a few extras when the community wants them.
There is a diamond based economy with a shopping district. People also work on public builds and bigger projects together. A big part of the vibe is proximity chat and most players actually use it.
They also have homes plus some cosmetic and quality of life and fun plugins that get added from community requests and polls. It is Java only on Minecraft 1.21.11 and it is whitelisted and 18 plus only.
They usually have around 5 to 20 people online during the day and they say there are hundreds of regular active players. If you want to meet people there are groups that are looking for new members too.
