PurpleSMP is a small survival server meant to feel relaxing. It is made for people who want to build on newer Minecraft versions without stressing about griefers or cheaters.
I noticed it has mcMMO so grinding resources feels like you are leveling up. The economy is all player made with no server shops and no currency. There are land claims so your builds can stay protected.
PvP is off by default which makes it feel chill. If you want to fight your friends you can toggle PvP. Everyone can also use random teleport so exploring is easy.
They say every block placed or broken is logged. Your inventory gets backed up when you join leave or die so staff can restore stuff if rules get broken. There is also strong anti cheat that alerts staff fast.
There is no world border so you can travel far and find fresh land. You also get a personal vault for extra storage and there is a web map you can use to look around the world.

This is a chill SMP that is meant to last a long time. It has a protected building zone that will never wipe so your stuff stays safe. Raiding and pvp are turned off so it feels more relaxed.
The world has gorgeous custom terrain generation and the map is huge with a 500k radius. There are custom mechanics too like duels plus jobs and skills.
They also have extras like an AXHoes plugin a buzz bee event builder and explorer bundles map art and baby mobs. The community is friendly and small but it is growing. There are no ranks and no pay to win.

CaliCraft is a player run server based out of California where you can actually shape what happens. It feels like survival mixed with politics because players vote for an Emperor every two weeks and that person gets real power.
The Emperor can add or remove plugins across gamemodes and make laws and even imprison people for any reason. If you get marked as a fugitive you can end up spawning in prison when you die or get dragged back in handcuffs if you get caught. There is a Constitution they have to follow but they can also make temporary laws. Some laws can become permanent through a 3 day Discord poll.
There is a lobby first and it helps you jump into different gamemodes fast. The server has Modded Survival with custom enchantments skills jobs an auction house an economy custom dungeons and vote crates with gear. It also has Vanilla Survival with quests chest sorting and daily rewards plus Skyblock with extra addons.
There is also a Cobblemon server on a separate Fabric setup so you need the Cobblemon modpack to play it. The server supports versions from 1.17.1 to 1.21.10.
A big part of the vibe is custom content with a custom resource pack. You can run into unique mobs animals elites and dungeon bosses with special drops so it is not just normal vanilla exploring.

Overgrowth MC is a semi vanilla SMP that feels like an RPG. There are tons of new things to find like custom items weapons and armor. You can get stronger over time and use magic and spells to help you out.
The world is full of danger with custom mobs and dungeons. You can fight tough creatures and take on dungeon bosses if you want a big challenge.
If you want to chill you can build a town and live more peaceful. If you want trouble there is PvP too with duels and even wars.
It also has Towny classes races skills like tree feller and fast mining brewery chest shops custom textures and crossplay. It supports Java and Bedrock and it runs on versions 1.21.7 to 1.21.11 plus recent Bedrock updates.

I found a newer Towny survival server that started as a streaming world and now it is trying to grow into a bigger community.
The vibe is chill and griefing and stealing are not allowed. The world never resets so you can build towns and keep your progress.
It has ingame ranking with ingame money. There is Dynmap so you can see the world. You also get player warps and player shops plus a sell only server shop. It also has Jobs and MCMMO.
Most players are in Oceania and people are welcoming to new players. They said there are around 25 daily active players and it gets busiest during Twitch streams with 8 or more online. There is also an upcoming town rating event on stream.
It supports version 1.21.10 or similar and it also has a Bedrock port.

PurpleSMP is a small chill survival server that is meant to feel simple but still refined. It is mainly PVE so you can build and explore without dealing with random jerks all the time. The world still has lots of land to grab and there is no world border so you can go really far and find untouched places.
It runs mcMMO so grinding skills and gathering stuff feels more fun. The economy is run by players with no server currency and no admin shops. PvP is off by default but you can toggle it if you want to fight your friends.
Your builds are protected with land claims and the server logs blocks placed and broken. Staff can check backups of inventories from joins leaves and deaths if you lose items because of rule breaking. There is also a strong anti cheat that alerts staff and can take action until someone reviews it.

Altitude is a community centered survival network that feels like a place people stick around. It has been running since 2015 and it starts a new world for big Minecraft releases. The current survival map is for 1.21.8+ and it was made new on July 19th 2025.
Survival is the main thing and the server adds extras to keep it interesting. You get land claiming with GriefPrevention so your builds are safer. There is basic teleport like home and back. There is McMMO skills too.
You can use a dynmap to see the world. There is an economy with player shops and a custom warp plugin for towns. MyPet is on here and they run monthly server events. PvP is optional so you can chill if you want.
They also have a big list of custom features that were suggested by the community and built in house. The server is intended for older players but anyone can join as long as they follow the rules.

Elysium is a small Java server that just reopened with a fresh start in early November. It is a multi world place and they are looking for 18+ players to join. There are a few long time members from the older server too.
The Survival world runs on 1.21.10 and has a 10k by 10k border. It has mcMMO skills and an online map you can open with a command. Teleport commands are mostly off so it feels more vanilla and people use Nether roof travel instead. There is also a shopping district at spawn where players can make chest shops and use diamonds as money.
If you like building there is a Plots world with 85 by 85 plots so you can build in peace. You start with one plot and can earn more by moving up build ranks. There is also a Creative superflat freebuild world for bigger community builds and higher ranks. You are allowed to build together but you cannot mess with other peoples builds without permission.
There is a main Hub world for travel and hanging out plus a second Creative world that is a perk for build ranks. They also have DiscordSRV for linking chat and names between Minecraft and Discord.

I found PurpleSMP and it feels simple but still polished. It is a PVE server on 1.21.11 and it has crossplay so you can join from different devices.
The main extra thing here is mcMMO so you can level up skills while you grind resources. The economy is player made with no server shops and no currency so trading is based on what people think stuff is worth.
You can claim land to protect builds and there are player vaults for extra storage. PvP is off by default but you can toggle it if you want to mess around with friends.
