Jobs are a big part of it too. You do not pick only a few because you are in every job and you earn experience and money from most actions. There is also a centralized storage network where you can connect chests to a terminal in your base so storing and searching items is way easier.
The server is fully free to play and everything is obtainable for all users. Vote ranks exist and a shop is there if you want it but buying is not expected.
