Crescent Kingdom is a fantasy SMP that tries to overhaul almost everything in Minecraft without using mods. It still runs like normal Minecraft but pretty much every system is changed.
There are tons of custom mobs with new models and new AI so the world feels way more alive and dangerous. You get magical abilities and player stats and accessories so it feels kind of like an RPG.
The server has new crops and craftable foods plus gemstones and mushrooms you can harvest. You use them for custom armor and buffs so progression feels different from normal.
The world has over a thousand custom blocks and there are jobs an auction house and even a black market so the economy is a big part of the game. There is land claiming so your base is safe and there are player markets and player warps so the community is connected.
There is also a fishing minigame and a custom in game Wikipedia to help you learn all the new stuff. The server gets regular updates with bug fixes new features and balance tweaks and it runs on strong hardware so performance is smooth.
It supports Java and Bedrock on version 1.21 and above and it is not pay to win and does not need any mods to join.

Tinkers Tavern is an 18 plus Minecraft community that has been around for a couple years. It is meant for adults who just want low stress gaming and like survival games. It feels chill and still has room for players who like to sweat a bit.
They run a Vanilla plus SMP that keeps the normal Minecraft feel but adds some quality of life stuff like voice chat and chunk claiming. You can join with a normal Minecraft client so you do not have to mess with mods if you do not want to.
There are also several modded servers. They have Vault Hunters for roguelike dungeon crawling with RPG style progression. They run Wolds Vaults too for more vault hunting. Trixxel MC is a survival server that feels like a long term world where you can actually settle down and play for a while. This server is called Minescape and it feels like someone turned Minecraft into an MMO. When you play here you focus on skills quests and combat instead of just regular survival.
There is a big focus on progression and a player driven economy. Stuff is not super easy on purpose. Combat and leveling are harder than normal Minecraft so it feels more like an MMO that you stick with for a long time instead of a quick game.

This server is a pirate themed survival RPG world and it already has cool events. Right now Santa shows up like a pirate on a sketchy wooden boat outside a place called Jothon and he is totally obsessed with cookies.
Players race to bake and collect as many cookies as they can. The three most productive citizens get really good rewards so people are already grinding hard and it feels kind of intense and funny at the same time.

This is a modded Minecraft server running 1.20.1 with a huge list of mods and it is mostly about adventure and exploration.
There are tons of new mobs and bosses from mods like Alex style creatures and other creature packs. There are big dungeons and crazy structures to find and some of them are super dangerous. You get harder fights and more intense gameplay with progressive difficulty type mods.

Nightfall is a chill survival server where people just hang out build and have fun together. It tries to feel like classic Minecraft but with some extra stuff to make playing nicer.

This place uses a plugin called CelestialDash that gives you a cool movement ability during storms. When thunderstorms happen the world can spawn special items called Celestial Tears. If you hold one in your main hand you can use a fast dash move.
The dash shoots you forward really quick so it feels great for exploring big areas or escaping fights. It also works well for parkour maps and for servers that want more RPG style movement. There is even an option for a double dash with no fall damage if the server owner turns it on.
Almost everything can be customized by the admin like how strong the dash is how high you go how long the cooldown is and what particles and sounds it uses. Messages and effects can be edited too so it fits the server vibe. Players do not need any special permission to use the dash and only admins use the admin command.
It is a very lightweight plugin and does not need other plugins to run so it is easy for a server owner to add it and test it with their players.
