I found a hardcore vanilla SMP that is meant to be simple and not scripted. It also supports cracked Minecraft.
This server is hardcore so dying matters and the world is just normal vanilla. There is no farlands stuff here.
It has a join and play setup with no application. The play style is basically no rules so people can grief bases and kill anyone.
They also said there are only three maces on the server so everyone is going to fight for them. The goal is to hit 100 members by the start of summer and have an active positive community.
