The only thing you can do that is not vanilla is use spawn so people who go really far out are not stuck alone forever.
The world border is set to two million blocks so there is a ton of space to explore and hide in. The server also lets you use the nether roof. Phantoms are removed which is nice and only about half the people on the server have to sleep to skip the night.
