This server is a classic style prison and it feels like 2014 again. It is not an OP prison at all. You start with basic tools and leather armor and you have to grind for everything.
You mine and smelt your ores and you have to walk through pvp zones to sell them in the commissary. There is no instant sell so the grind is real. Swords and potions are illegal so if guards see you with them they will fight you.
There are ranks from A all the way up to Parolee and Citizen. After you reach top rank you can prestige for special rewards. You can even become a Parolee and leave the prison to build a farm and make more money.
You can rent a cell or a prison plot to store your items grow special illegal plants or make your own shop. Those illegal plants can make a lot of money but guards are always watching. Quests give extra cash or items and there is custom fishing and parkour challenges around the prison.
The staff use prison roles. Guards and SrGuards protect new players and enforce contraband rules. Wardens run the place. There is solitary confinement for bad behavior and a bounty system if you want someone taken out. There is also an auction house for trading with other players.
Overall it is focused on grinding pvp and a classic prison community instead of flashy crazy gear.

PlanetNostalgia is a Minecraft server trying to bring back the old Alpha 1.1.2_01 days. When you join it feels like 2010 again with the bright green grass and simple terrain and that basic Minecraft feeling.

GlowySMP is a new semi vanilla SMP that is whitelisted and focused on PvE. It looks like a server where people just want to play survival and chill together.

SqueejCraft is a hard survival world that feels a lot like single player but with other people around. The server is semi vanilla so it keeps normal game mechanics and lets you build big farms and mega bases without weird changes.
The owners focus a lot on performance and still let you use redstone and vanilla mob farms. There is a big world border so there is room for long term projects and the server is meant for players who like to stay on one world for a long time.
You get land claiming to protect your builds and there is an economy that is separate from the normal vanilla trading. Chest shops and home points unlock as you play so you get some quality of life stuff without it feeling like a minigame server.

United Lands is a Towny Earth SMP that feels like a big world map where players build towns and nations and fight over land. The map is scaled so you can claim big areas and shape your own empire with your friends.
When I joined I noticed the server has lots of custom features. There are custom items and custom gear and even different foods like avocados and mac and cheese. You can pick from 7 different jobs and they each have skill trees so you can level up and get stronger in your own way.
The economy is fully player run. There are no admin shops at all. Players use warps and make their own shops and you have to hunt around for the best prices or try to become the one everyone buys from.
There is pvp and also roleplay so you can either be a builder who makes cool towns or a fighter who joins wars or both. You can join an already made town or nation or start your own and try to become powerful.
The server is not pay to win. The store is only cosmetic so people who spend money do not get gameplay advantages. It feels fair because everyone plays on the same level.

Sheltercube is a semi vanilla smp that feels like a forever world. I watched it grow for about two months and the place already looks super cool.

This is a vanilla style SMP that uses amplified terrain and it looks really crazy in a cool way. The world was reset recently and players are already building bases all over the place.
There is a 6k by 6k world border so people end up living closer together or sharing bases. The border will expand later so there will be more room for new plans and builds when the server grows.
Most of the community hangs out in the discord. People advertise their shops share screenshots of the terrain and talk about trades and deals. Voice chats are usually pretty active with players just chilling and talking about their ideas for the world.

MinedHype is a public survival SMP that has been running for years and it feels really stable and long term. It is mostly vanilla Minecraft and it is on version 1.21.10 so it feels up to date.
There is no whitelist and no pay to win stuff so everyone starts the same. There is also no money plugin so trading and shops feel more natural. You can claim land for grief protection and the server uses CoreProtect so they can check what happened if something goes wrong. Grief is allowed only if a place is not claimed so if you protect your base you should be safe.
The world is huge and there is no world border. The overworld and nether are long term and not planned to reset so you can build big projects without worrying they will get wiped. New players get spawned randomly in a big area and you can also use rtp to teleport far away and then set your home in a comfy spot.
There is a web map so you can see the world from your browser. There is also a public shopping district and anyone can try to get a shop there by using the in game command. The server runs free events with prizes so players have stuff to do together.

This server is running a cool event that is all about the player economy. The whole point is to make creative chest shops that feel unique and fun.
You can build stuff like a custom fish market or a rare arms dealer style shop. The staff are looking for shops that are not lazy or spammy. If you just throw down boring single block trades it will not count.
To enter you have to send a picture of your shop and a short description. You submit it in their event channel before December 29th 2025 at midnight.
At the end the staff vote on who made the most unique shop on the server. First place gets a Master of Coin title plus a Mythic Key server points and in game money. Second and third place also get keys points and cash just a bit less.
The whole thing feels like they really want new players to join and help grow the economy while having fun making shops.
