You can join with Java versions from 1.7.2 up to 1.21.10 but they say 1.21.10 works the best. The world border is 2 million blocks in every direction so there is a lot of land to explore and hide in.
The server has almost no rules for gameplay. Griefing is allowed and PvP is allowed and there are no map resets. There is no pay to win at all and there is no normal teleporting. The only command they let you use that is not vanilla is spawn so you can get back to other players if you went really far.
They also allow people to use the nether roof. Phantoms are turned off so the night is a little less annoying and only half the players have to sleep to skip the night.
There are still some rules for fairness. You are not allowed to use exploits or lag machines or dupes. You cannot spam chat and you cannot use harassment or racial slurs. So you still get chaos but not total garbage chat.
