WhimsyWillow SMP is a small modded server that feels very community focused. It is on season 3 right now and this time everything is modded with mods that were picked by the players.
The world has over 100 biomes with lots of structures so there is always something new to explore. There is the Create mod so you can build cool machines and moving builds as long as they are reasonable. There are also extra ores and new tools and weapons so progression feels more exciting.
The server has a shop district and a nice spawn that the community keeps looking good. Players can make their own shops and sell whatever they want. There is a world map with Bluemap so you can see the world from above and plan where to go.
The owners really care about suggestions and balance. They want the server to feel fair and fun for everyone and they listen when people share ideas. They also run events every now and then to keep things active and there is even an event going on right now.
Everyone is welcome here and they are always looking for more people who want to hang out and have fun. To join you just apply for the whitelist with a short application after joining their community.

From what I can see the owners are actually active and they play on the server too. They focus on really good quality of life extras. There is simple voice chat so talking is easier. This is a semi vanilla survival server that feels really focused on community and long term worlds. When I joined it felt like everyone already knew each other but they still said hi to new people and that was cool.
The whole economy is based on diamonds so finding them actually feels important. Players make their own shops and there is a shops menu so you can browse stuff really fast instead of running around forever.
Land claiming is done with golden shovels so you can protect your base and builds. With no griefing allowed it feels safe to build big projects and not worry about someone breaking everything while you are offline.
The server is more PvE style and it really feels like true survival because there is no keep inventory. If you die you actually care and it makes caving and exploring more intense.
There are separate resource worlds so people can go mine and chop trees without leaving giant holes in the main world. That keeps the main world looking way nicer for towns bases and cool builds.
They also have ranks and vote rewards so you get extra perks just for playing a lot and supporting the server. There are weekly events too so it does not get boring since there is always something going on.
Both Java and Bedrock players can join so you can play with friends even if they are on different platforms. The community feels friendly and pretty active which makes it easy to stick around.

This server is called MineRealm and it has been online since 2010 which is actually pretty crazy. It is a classic style SMP survival server that feels really close to vanilla. The server uses custom jobs so players have goals to work on and a way to feel progression instead of just grinding. There are player shops so the economy is built by the players themselves and people can trade and make their own little markets. With player warps it is easy to visit towns and cool builds so nothing feels hidden or forgotten.

OrianaMC is a survival server that tries to feel like a big upgraded version of normal Minecraft. You start out simple but you can slowly build your own town and even grow into a kingdom. The community feels chill and friendly and it is more about relaxing and playing for a long time instead of rushing.
The main way to earn money is by picking jobs and skills. There are no admin shops so you actually have to do stuff like mining or farming to get paid. Your skills matter because they are how you make cash and move forward on the server.
There are custom items too. Monsters can drop fragments and cores. You trade those to get Rubedites and those are used to get special items. These items have custom textures and also enchantments that are stronger than normal vanilla ones so they feel powerful.

This server is a wild social experiment in Minecraft. The world border is 7k by 7k so space and resources are actually limited. People have to think hard about what they build and where they build it.
It uses the Create mod for industry stuff and Tough as Nails so you have thirst and temperature. That means you need real infrastructure just to stay alive. You cannot just chill and ignore the environment.
There are some strict rules that make it feel serious. No afk farms and no ender chests so every item takes real effort. Staff will not fix your problems. If someone robs you or kills you it is on you to deal with it. Players make their own courts and systems to solve fights.
The world is split into different groups right now. There is a capitalist district making civil codes and private property rules. There are socialist or communist style districts trying to share warehouses and make taxes for roads and stuff. There are also anarchists and random players waiting to see who fails so they can grab power.
