BackToBlocks is a mostly vanilla survival server that tries to keep the classic Minecraft feeling. It sticks to normal progression and focuses on community building and creativity.
You get a few helpful commands like sethome and spawn plus tpa so getting around is easier. There are extra warp spots you can unlock by voting so active players can travel more without changing the main survival vibe.
The server has a community made spawn and the staff runs events. There is a decorated End island and a Nether hub plus a player run shopping district and an item economy.
It is not pay to win and it avoids silly plugins. PvP and raiding are allowed within limits but it is not a PvP focused place and griefing is not allowed. There is also itemflip if you want to gamble items for fun and you can toggle phantoms.

Normal Survival is a friendly survival server where people mostly just chill and play together. It feels like a relaxed place for building exploring farming and hanging out with friends.
The server has a bunch of useful quality of life stuff like custom crafting recipes. You can take down whole trees fast with tree capitator and mine connected ores with vein miner.
You can set multiple homes so getting around is easier. You can also teleport to friends with /tpa and /tpahere.
There is a player shop system so anyone can run a shop. Voting lets you pick rewards from a voter shop.
You can pick up villagers and other non hostile mobs which makes moving them way less annoying. Keep inventory can be toggled by players.
This is not a pvp focused server. Pvp can be turned on or off and the main goal is relaxing survival with the community. Phantoms are disabled too.

Deatheville is a community focused survival server that mixes in RPG style progression. You can build a base then work on skills and leveling while you play.

I found a survival SMP that started as a friend group server during COVID and it grew into a welcoming community that still keeps it going.
It is open to join and there is no whitelist. There are no land claims so the rules matter a lot. Griefing and hacking are not allowed and they get enforced hard.
The server has a shopping district and a main communal area. Players trade using raw gold and they can run shops.
It stays close to vanilla with a few quality of life things like invisible item frames and a chest locking system. There is also /sethome and /spawn but not much else.
It runs on Hard and keep inventory is off so it can be rough. Technical players will like it because TNT duping and bedrock breaking are enabled. If you want a starter kit you can ask in chat.

CaveMC is a semi anarchy survival server that feels like vanilla but harder. The whole overworld is underground so there is no surface at all. It is all caves with biomes resources and structures packed into one giant cave world.
Season 2 is out so it is a fresh start with a bunch of additions. Survival is brutal and you have to be smart to last.
There is also a Wasteland Dimension coming on November 8th. It adds new gear huge mega structures and secrets to find. It also has its own currency so players can trade and build a new economy. There is a new spawn too and the map is custom generated with special features.

Pixel Springs is a cozy modded SMP on Minecraft 1.20.1 that is made for people who want a long term home. The world is meant to stick around and not reset so you can build big projects and keep your collections.
The server has lots of builder friendly mods with extra blocks and decoration options. It also has a custom FTB Quests setup so you can collect items learn mods and earn rewards while you play.

I found PPSMP and it is trying to be more than a normal SMP. It is planned to have like 4 or 5 different game modes so it should not feel the same every day.
It is also supposed to have an economy and quests. The big thing is they are aiming for fully free to play with no microtransactions and no pay to win stuff.
They also want it to be a safe space for everyone no matter your orientation or beliefs. The vibe sounds like a community server but with a focus on being fair and welcoming.

You can start a small settlement then claim land and grow it into something big. The world is custom made for exploring and picking a good spot to build.
There is a player run economy so trading resources and services is a big deal. Politics is also player driven so diplomacy can save you or get you into trouble.
When things turn serious the server uses Towny and SiegeWar so nations can fight over territory. It is launching soon and it supports both Java and Bedrock on version 1.21.11.
