Smithtainment is a custom survival server that still tries to keep that vanilla feel that people like. It is set to Hard mode so the world does not feel sleepy. There are quality of life features like skills and jobs plus a resource world. Mobs can be leveled and there are stacked mobs and spawners too.
If you die you get sent to the fairy and you can pay to buy back the items you lost. There are helpful commands like random teleport and homes plus warps and cosmetics and tags.
The server has playtime ranks so the longer you play the more perks you unlock. The economy is built around a balanced shop plus an auction house and chest shops so players can trade a lot.
Spawn is custom and there is a PvP arena under it. The End has custom enderdragon fights so you can team up and take her down. Fishing is also custom and there are tournaments.
The community is welcoming and donors are not overpowered. Crates are for cosmetics only and the themes can change with the seasons. There is also a story vibe at spawn with villagers if you like exploring lore.

Campfire SMP is a whitelisted semi vanilla survival server that is trying to be a real long term home. It is 18+ only and it stays small so people actually know each other. Most players are in their 20s with some older too.
The world started on 09/13/2025 and the goal is no resets. It has a big 60k by 60k world border and it will expand with major updates. The server runs on Purpur 1.21.11 and it keeps the survival feel since there is no tpa and no home commands.
There are already community areas like a shopping district and a themed city district plus nether highways. There is also an arena and a mini games district. People hang out in voice chat while they build and talk.
It is self hosted 24/7 in Las Vegas with limited interruptions. It uses a few plugins and data packs for quality of life and admin stuff like Dynmap Simple Voice Chat Coreprotect and things like custom armor stands mini blocks and player heads.

RedLine Season 2 is a reopened server with a full reset and it runs on 1.21.11. It is a semi anarchy survival place where people actually fight a lot and also build if they want.
The world border is 12k by 12k so it feels big but not endless. Griefing stealing killing and even prisoning are allowed so you have to watch your back.
Hacking duping and exploiting are not allowed at least for the most part. There are no easy commands like sethome auction house or claim so travel and safety are on you.
They have custom recipes and some strong kits like mace without fireworks and TNT cart. Netherite is unbanned now and there is also a Netherite SMP kit and a trident spear kit. Ender chests are limited to one row so you cannot hide everything in there.
There is no pay to win and you can buy cosmetic tiers. There is also the RedLine System which is a cosmetic weapon collection thing with named and skinned weapons if you use their custom resource pack and only one of each weapon can be made.

I found a new Java server on 1.21.10 that is going for a super close to vanilla feel but still has a few small mods like enhancements and stuff that lets you set a home.
The whole point is anarchy style fighting with clans. People can start wars make deals and try to take over. There are no land claims so nobody is protected by fake borders and you can raid and battle anywhere.
You can build an empire if you can defend it. Dying matters because keep inventory is never on. You can also collect player heads as trophies and take their gear.
The staff is active and fair and they watch for cheating. Hacks like x ray are not allowed at all.

This is a geopolitical Earth server where towns fight over real life regions for resources. Iron gold and diamonds only come from certain areas so you have to claim the right land to get them. Mining is done with open pit style digging so everyone can see what you are taking.
It runs on Towny and your town needs different resources to keep going. Small towns can survive with simple stuff like iron but bigger towns need more types. Gold matters and oil is a custom drop that only shows up in specific zones.
The economy feels serious because players can make shops and also deal with loans. If you want to start a war you can raise money with a war bond then try to siege rivals and take their land. There is a dynamic server shop too so people can mess with prices and even try to short the market.

This server is a vanilla client survival experiment where the mechanics push people to work together. Trying to play solo is super hard. Crops and ores are locked to different regions so you cannot just get everything where you live.
If you settle in a tundra you will need to trade with desert groups to get stuff like cactus and sand. That makes players talk and build trade and deals instead of hiding underground.
The world is meant to be permanent and always changing with no resets. The admins set up scarcity and biome locked resources and factory based industry then they step back. There are no admin forced events so wars treaties and trade all happen naturally.
A huge part of the server is the Printing Press. Players mass produce books to record laws religions and conflicts and that history is starting to get archived on the community wiki.
