I found a small geopolitics style server that is semi vanilla on Java. It is run by the owner and it uses a bunch of in house made plugins to make everything feel like medieval times.
The world is a huge custom map and it is made to be super detailed and realistic like a real planets geography. The server is being redone right now and the goal is to end up with a more active community.
