This is an 18 plus Minecraft server where the best part is the people. The community seems really close and a lot of players have made real friends just by playing together.
At spawn there is a big church that got built so players can get married if they want. The server is not a full roleplay server but it sounds like small roleplay moments are welcome and can be fun.
People keep building more stuff at spawn too. One of the newest places is a karaoke bar where players can grab a spot and do awful drunken singing and everyone laughs about it.

I found a medieval themed modded server for Java 1.12.2 where the main idea is building kingdoms and fighting wars.
The big mod focus lets players make NPC soldiers and workers and you can also use siege machines like catapults to attack fortresses. Wars are long term and sometimes lead to big battles with lots of NPCs and a final fight at an enemy capitol.
There is claim protection most of the time but it gets disabled during a siege for wars. The server has some lore and rp going on with a backstory posted in their community but roleplay is not required.
It is not only war since there are building mods and lots of PvE too. You can find structures and bosses and they also plan PvE events sometimes. I found a medieval themed modded server where the big idea is building kingdoms then fighting wars with sieges. The main mod lets you make npc soldiers and workers so you can have real armies and not just players.
The server runs on Java 1.12.2 and it started last week so people are still forming kingdoms. There is claim protection but it gets turned off during a siege for wars so battles can actually happen.

Blossom SMP is a friendly survival server that is moving into a more modded season. It is meant to feel like playing with friends and the community cares a lot about respect.
It is LGBTQ friendly and welcomes everyone. This is not a pvp server and fighting only happens if both people agree.
Players can pick from over 100 Origins to change how they play. There is optional roleplay if you want it. The server also has Better End and Better Nether plus new dimensions new mobs new enchants and lots of new structures.
If you like building there are over 1000 extra blocks to use. If you like adventure there is tough late game content and over 500 new weapons. It also includes Farmer's Delight Better Archeology and Simple Voice Chat.
The server opens Sunday 3 8 at 5pm EST. The End stays closed for about a week and then everyone kills the dragon together.

This is a semi vanilla Minecraft server that mixes Origins and Lifesteal in a pretty cool way. The server is really new and only about a week old so players are not super overpowered yet. You can still join and keep up with everyone in progression.
The server has different quality of life mods and immersion mods that make it feel nicer to play without going full crazy modpack. There are Lifesteal mechanics so PvP actually matters because hearts are important. There are many different Origins so you can pick a playstyle that fits you.
