ShovelCraft is a semi vanilla SMP where people care more about building and stories than rushing the end of the game. The server is made for long term play and the world is not planned to reset so everything you build and all the history actually matters.
The map is split into two zones. In the Green Zone around spawn you play with no pvp and no stealing or griefing. It is all about towns trading and shared lore. In the Red Zone farther out pvp is on and stealing is allowed so you can have battles and tension but still no griefing. This keeps bases and builds safe while still letting people fight for fun and story.
The End is turned off so there are no elytras or shulker farms. Everyone travels by land sea and Nether which makes roads and ships and portals really important. There is a diamond based economy and you can level up your team with diamonds to unlock perks like more warps shared storage and extra member slots.
There are seasonal competitions that give lore themed rewards like armor trims and shulker boxes. Eden is a long term civilization style SMP where the whole world is built and run by players.
There are no world resets and admins stay out of the way most of the time. There are no protected towns and no pre built areas. If you see a road or a city or a farm it is because some group of players planned it and built it and now has to defend it.
Players make their own nations and cities. They decide who leads them and how laws work and what happens to criminals. Alliances rise and fall and different governments get tested when there is pressure or war.
The server uses reinforced blocks so bases and vaults are hard to raid and take real effort to break. Crops are regional so some only grow in certain biomes and ores spawn as you mine so tools and location matter. Some resources are locked to certain regions so people need trade and good logistics.
There are snitch style blocks that track activity for security and investigations. There is also a system where players can capture other players and imprison them in the Nether as a way to punish crimes or use pressure during conflicts.
Right now the map is fresh and shops and towns are just starting to appear. The player count is already decent and the whole world feels like it is at the beginning of something big.

This server is called MineRealm and it is one of the longest running SMP servers I have seen. It has been online since 2010 and more than two hundred thousand players have joined over the years. The world is smaller at first and slowly expands so new land always uses the latest Minecraft version.
The gameplay is focused on survival and is fully legit. There is no pay to win and no item spawning. Everything you see was gathered and built by players. There are no fancy spawned in hubs or prefab structures so the whole world feels really player made.
MineRealm uses a classic plot system and grief protection so your builds stay safe. They have their own protection plugin and also use CoreProtect so griefing is not really a thing here.
