You can join with lots of Java versions from 1.7.2 up to 1.21.10 and they say 1.21.10 is best so stuff does not break.
The world is huge with a border at 2 million blocks. There are no resets so everything people do stays. There is no teleporting at all and no pay to win stuff. Griefing is allowed and so is PvP so you really have to be careful who you trust.
The only special command that is allowed is spawn so people really far away do not get stuck alone forever. Nether roof is allowed and phantoms are turned off. Only half the players have to sleep to skip the night so it is not super annoying.
They do have a few rules so it is not totally crazy. You cannot use exploits or dupes. You are not allowed to make lag machines or spam. You also cannot use harassment or racial slurs in chat.
