I found a small community Java survival server that has been running for about 8 months and it is meant to be long term with no wipes planned. It is 16 plus and the people there seem to want a calm and more mature vibe.
The gameplay feels close to vanilla since it uses plugins and not mods. There are no claims and there are no locked chests. There is also no home or teleport commands so you actually travel and build like normal.
Building is a big deal here and people make themed group areas. There are ancient styles like Aztec and Egyptian. There is medieval and a modern city theme too. You can also build sci fi or magic areas plus underground and Asian inspired zones.
They use proximity voice chat and you have to use it. If you like slower progress big builds and long projects this server looks like a good fit.
