This is a modern apocalypse survival server with a big horror vibe where something way worse than zombies is starting to spread.
Everyone spawns inside a quarantined zone called Alpigus. For the first 7 days you are trapped inside the walls because the grid is still running. When the power finally fails the wall opens and the Nether unlocks and the End becomes reachable too.
There is also a huge timed event where a nuke drops inside the wall and wipes the area. If you did not escape before that you are basically done.
It is not hardcore. There is a land claim system so players cannot grief or force PvP in your area but stealing is still possible. PvP can be toggled in claims with commands so you can choose how risky you want it to be.

AvalonEarth is an EarthSMP and geopolitics server with a 1 to 500 scale world map so there is tons of space to build and spread out.
It uses Towny and the whole point is making towns and turning them into nations. New players get starter money so anyone can start a nation right away without grinding first.
The server has seasons and the first one started in September and built a strong community. Season two is out now and it has a lot of new players joining.
If you want conflict there are lots of wars and PVP. If you do not want that you can stay peaceful and mostly avoid fights. Money mainly comes from jobs plus farming and fishing and they said more ways to earn are coming later.

MCVerse is a long term survival server where the world does not reset and grief is not allowed. It is made for people who want to build huge projects and then take breaks without coming back to a wreck.
The main SMP is a classic survival grind with no custom items enchants or skills. You can trade with player markets to skip some of the grind or you can do it all yourself. Ranks and perks are earned for free just by playing.
The community is kind of international and the ages are all over the place from teens to older players. Chat is kept clean with low tolerance for swearing and public chat is mostly for Minecraft and gaming.
There is also a Hardcore Vanilla option and some other worlds like a more plain vanilla style world that runs for 6 to 12 months and a creative plots server for testing. This is a modded Java survival server set in a modern apocalypse where parasites are spreading and everything feels like a horror movie.
Players start inside a quarantined zone called Alpigus and everyone is stuck there for the first 7 days. The grid is stable at first but it is expected to fail and when it does the wall opens and the Nether unlocks and you can craft Ender Eyes.
There is a huge threat tied to the grid failure. Protocol Orion activates and a nuke drops inside the wall and it wipes everything in the zone. If you do not escape before the nuke time then you are basically done.
It is not hardcore. There is land claim so people cannot grief your builds or force PVP. Stealing is not protected so you still have to be smart and careful. PVP can be toggled inside claims with commands.

I found Calito Nations and it is a survival civilization server where politics actually changes what happens. It just opened Early Access and they want founding players to start towns and set the vibe.
You can found a town and pick how it is governed. There are five government types and each one changes stuff like upkeep land claims and expansion. Some are cheaper but force voting and some let you control more but cost more.
Elections use ranked choice voting so it is not just a simple one and done vote. Your vote weight depends on things like how long you lived there how much gold you put in the treasury and if you have been active recently. There is also a cap so one person cannot own the whole town.
Every town has a tension score and if it gets too high bad things start happening. Impeachment petitions can spawn residents can defect and towns can try to break away from their nation. You cannot just take power and go AFK.
There is siege warfare too with scheduled weekend battle sessions. If a nation wins they can plunder and occupy the town and collect a big part of the daily resource production. The server runs on Java 1.21.6+ and it is running on Folia.

Revenant Order is an 18+ Minecraft Java Edition SMP running the ATM10 modpack. It is made for long term play and it is all about nations and progress.
You can create a nation or join one then claim land and build real infrastructure. People focus on progression through tech and magic plus farms factories and automation.
There is a real economy feel since you can open shops and fight for trade power. Politics matter too since nations can form alliances treaties or rivalries.
