I found a survival server that started as a friend group thing during COVID and it grew into a welcoming community that keeps it going.
It is open to join and there is no whitelist. There are no land claims so you have to play fair. The rules against griefing and hacking are enforced really hard.
The server runs on Hard and keep inventory is off so it can feel tough. Players trade using raw gold and people set up shops.
It stays close to vanilla with just a few quality of life things like spawn and one home. It also has invisible item frames and a way to lock chests.
It is also friendly for technical players since TNT duping and bedrock breaking are enabled. If you want a starter kit you can ask in chat.

I found a cracked anarchy SMP where you can do basically anything and the world is meant to be chaotic.
They still have some rules though like no cheats or exploits. They also do not allow rape jokes or extreme racism.
The server hosts weekly events. It supports Java and Bedrock on version 1.21.11 and it says support goes until 26.0.

Off-Script SMP is a crossplay survival server where Java and Bedrock players can play together. It is meant for people who hate playing alone and want a chill place to build with others.
The server uses GeyserMC and has some plugins and datapacks like chest claiming and realistic sized mobs. There is also a QOL datapack made by the owners.
The world has a small but growing border so players stay closer together. The border increases every 1 to 2 weeks.
Staff are super understanding about item loss or pet loss and even when you get annoyed trying to find stuff. They can help you out for the right diamond price.
There are small roleplay and lore parts. It is build focused so if you mainly want PvP then this is not the server for you.

Malgazar SMP is a chill survival server on 1.21.11 where people actually try to build and not wreck everything. It is hosted in Germany and it stays pretty active with around 13 players online a lot and about 400 overall.
The rules are serious about being respectful. No griefing no stealing no scamming no slurs no drama and no cheating stuff like xray seed maps or duping glitches. PvP is only if both players agree and you also are not allowed to mess with other peoples pets or animals.
It has some QOL changes that make survival smoother like keep inventory and explosions not breaking blocks. There is veinminer teleport to other players and rankings for things like mining and sword use. Fishing has extra rare loot too.
The world border is set to 15k and a lot of players live near the hub around -1k -1k. Only official Minecraft launchers are allowed so no cracked clients.

The danger grows as the world gets older because mobs scale over time. There is also a huge vertical build limit up to 2032 blocks so you can build super high or dig deep.

The server uses CoreProtect for grief prevention and has Simple Voice Chat and Graves. It keeps things simple with no big economy stuff and no land claims so it runs on effort and trust.
