The server runs on hard difficulty so survival can get rough fast. There is a sleep plugin so nights go faster when more players sleep and fire spread is turned on so you have to be careful.
The map started fresh on December 12th and the world border expands over time so there is always more to discover. There is also an overworld road network and a nether tunnel system that keeps growing.
