I found a Java server that is going for true survival and it tries to make Minecraft feel more natural.
It has basically no structures and you are not supposed to do farms or heal zombie villagers so progress stays slow and simple.
The world starts at UTC feb 3rd at 8:00am and it runs on 1.21.11.
Griefing is not allowed and killing is not allowed unless the other person says it is ok.
Spawn is a nice plains and it is surrounded by forest savanna and jungle biomes plus a big mountain.
I found a Minecraft civilization SMP that is story driven and starting in March. It is called The Walled Infected and it is a modded survival and roleplay experience in a custom built dystopian world.
The vibe is all about survival with anarchy and war. People can form factions and there is deception so you really have to watch who you trust. Applications are open so you have to apply to get in.
Halcyon is a Lands PvP server that tries to feel like a real medieval world while still being on the latest vanilla Minecraft version 1.21.11. It was started by a postgraduate medievalist and it is based in Australia. People also play from Europe the Americas and Asia and it often has around 10 to 30 players online.
The world is handmade and the server adds a few restrictions so survival feels harder and slower. Night cannot be skipped and healing is slow and only works in certain conditions. The goal is to make meta strategies and heavy automation matter less and to make creativity cooperation and special roles matter more.
There is no teleportation so travel is a big deal. Players end up making roads waystations and secret railways to get around. Crops and saplings are limited to certain biomes so trading becomes important and places can feel different from each other.
It does not force you to follow server lore. You can just play normally and see what stories happen when other players get involved. Players have already started making art books myths and superstitions on their own.
This server is called CollideCraft Time Zero and it feels like you crash into a broken world. The dimension is messed up and space is tight and resources are not easy to get.
It is a semi vanilla SMP with some light lore so it still feels like normal Minecraft but with a story in the background. Survival is not handed to you. You have to earn it and it feels pretty intense.
There is lifesteal so PvP actually matters a lot. There are factions so players team up and form alliances and probably break them later. The plugins are chosen by the players so the community has some control over how the server plays.
There are frequent events and they hint that there is more hidden under the surface so it feels like you will keep discovering new stuff as you play. The server is on Season 3 and this one is called Time Zero so it feels like the world and time are all scrambled.
You have to join early if you want to secure a spot because they use a whitelist so not everyone gets in right away.
