I found this vanilla multiplayer world that tries to feel like real hardcore mode but with other people around.
The big twist is what happens when you die. There is no timed death ban. Instead your progress gets reverted and you start over. Your XP stats inventory and even your chest and ender chest storage get wiped. That also means your bases and farms are gone too.
It feels super high stakes because every day you survive actually matters. The whole point is to see how long you can last like 10 days 100 days or even 1000 days.

Waychest is a custom PvE survival server that feels like you got your own private world at first. You and your friends start in something called a Journey with a random spawn point. It is all inside one shared survival world though so other people are out there too.
As you explore you start finding special Waychests and other custom stuff that points you toward places players have been before. The idea is you can follow these clues and end up crossing paths with other Journeys. Later you can even craft and place your own Waychests to lead the next group to your builds.
There is also a Waychest Flight thing where you craft an Elytra and then do an in world flying minigame through rings that ends at a Waychest made by a stranger. Fast travel exists too but it is discovery based so you have to find warp points to unlock them.
It runs on Minecraft Java 1.21.11 and works with a vanilla client. The vibe is semi vanilla SMP but with a lot of custom systems built just for this server.GG.MINEWIND.NET New Server IP
