Atropolis is a newly opened SMP that is aiming for a 16 plus semi vanilla community based experience. It keeps the vanilla feeling but adds a bunch of quality of life changes so it is easier to play day to day.
Some tweaks include phantoms being disabled one person sleep a PvP toggle and extra anti grief stuff for certain mobs. They also have protections and rollbacks ready if something goes really bad.
Keep inventory is on in the nether and the end. Nether access and nether roof travel are set up at spawn so getting around is faster.
There are some add ons like Simple Voice Chat Dynmap death count head drops and Elytra Trims. Voice chat and Elytra Trims are optional so you can play without them if you want.

ScaleBound SMP is a modded survival SMP with a brand new world and a chill vibe. It has over 120 mods so there is a lot to learn and mess with from day one.
Players can explore big custom terrain with continents and islands. There are tons of extra places to find like better dungeons and upgraded strongholds plus more mineshafts and new villagers. You can also run into dangerous Ice and Fire creatures while you travel.
Building is safer because land can be claimed with FTB Chunks so griefing is not the point here. There is also an economy and server ranking systems.
If you like tech you can build machines with Create and Steam n Rails or go for bigger automation with Industrial Foregoing. For survival stuff there is more food and fishing with Farmer’s Delight addons and Aquaculture 2 and Untamed Wilds.
Storage and travel are easier with backpacks and storage mods plus Waystones. There is also JEI and Simple Voice Chat. You can even watch the world on a live BlueMap web map.

I found HighTide SMP and it is a brand new 18 plus survival server with a small crew vibe where people actually talk and connect.
It is whitelist only so you have to apply and they say they want trusted players. The server supports both Java and Bedrock so you can join from pretty much any device.
They do game nights and movie nights plus event nights and even drinking nights. For plugins it has graves so you can get your stuff back. It also has tree chop and a dynmap you can check in a browser. CoreProtect is there to stop griefing. Chests refill after five minutes so other people can loot too. You can also toggle PvP on or off.
They plan to start the world on the first Saturday after they hit 30 members so joining early means you help shape how it all starts.

Aegea is a Spigot survival server that feels close to vanilla but adds some extra stuff to keep it fun. It has a simple economy plus ranks and helpful commands so you can get going fast.
You can set homes and use teleport requests with other players. If you die you can go back to where it happened. You can also randomly teleport out into the wild to start fresh. Players can sell items for money and make trade signs so shops can run on player prices.
The server has chest and door locks and staff can roll back grief with CoreProtect. The rules are clear like no griefing no stealing and no PvP without consent. It also keeps things chill with no spam no hacks no lag machines and no toxic or NSFW stuff.
Ranks are earned by playtime so anyone can move up over time. There is also a monthly election for the top player rank. Players can join teams that share a name a home and warps. There is a new map right now too.

AdriftSMP is starting up with two different servers so you can pick how you want to play.
One server is vanilla enhanced. It has new world structure to explore and levelled mobs if you want more of a challenge. It also has an economy with player shops and auctions. You can claim land and PvP can be toggled. It also uses proximity chat with simple voice chat and has playtime rewards.
The other server is a Season 1 total PvP server. It has leader boards for kills deaths and playtime. You earn in game currency from kills and can buy kits so you can get back into fights fast. You can team up or go solo and nothing is against the rules. Teams get disbanded in the last week for a free for all event. It also has proximity chat with simple voice chat and a bounty system.
Both servers launch on 3rd April and the community helps shape things with polls and suggestions.

LegacyMC is a raw survival server where players get full freedom and nothing is protected. It is vanilla and it avoids gameplay changing plugins. There are no rules so PvP griefing and raiding are all part of daily life.
The world is meant to last with no resets and no admin interference. There are no land claims and no teleporting so you travel and survive the hard way. What you build or lose can stick around.
It started in June 2025 so there is still time to leave a mark. The server is hosted on dedicated hardware in Australia to keep ping low for Australia and New Zealand players. It is cost covered and there is no monetisation or pay to win stuff.

Worldbound is a survival server where people try to start nations from nothing. The world is still pretty empty so new players can jump in early and try to become leaders.
The main thing is politics and geography. Players build cities and capitals then set borders and make alliances. You can also fight wars that change who controls the map.
It runs on a satellite style world map so the continents and oceans feel more realistic for building civilizations. It supports Java and Bedrock crossplay on 1.21.11+.
