This is a modded modern apocalypse server with a big horror vibe and a story that moves forward on real dates. Everyone starts trapped inside a government quarantine zone called Alpigus and the grid is only stable for a short time.
For the first 7 days players cannot leave the zone. When the wall loses power the world opens up and the Nether unlocks and the End becomes reachable.
Later the server hits a grid failure event and a nuke drops inside the wall and wipes everything in that area. If you did not escape before it happens you are basically done.
It is not hardcore. There is land claiming and it stops griefing and PvP but it does not stop stealing. You can also toggle PvP inside claims using claim commands.

I found a modded Minecraft SMP called Gilded Abyss and Season 2 started 2 days ago. The whole vibe is medieval and it is set up so new people will slowly get sorted into one of two groups. Each group gets daily tasks as the server goes on.
The world has lots to explore since it uses Biomes O Plenty and Terralith. You can also pick an Origin in game so you have a race and you can use its abilities.
There are special items you can get in certain ways and there are custom bosses for harder fights. The Create mod is on too so players can build machines and do automation as long as it is reasonable.
The End stays closed for the first week. After that it opens and there is an event. They also want lots of suggestions and they say there will be many events.
