I found a modded survival SMP that just launched a brand new world so everyone is starting from day one. It has over 120 mods and it feels more like chill survival than constant chaos.
There is a live web map so you can look at the world and see builds from your browser. Bases can be protected with a claim system so you do not have to stress about griefing. There is also a server wide ranking system and an economy.
The world gen is custom and it uses Regions Unexplored and Nullscape so the terrain looks huge with continents islands and big landscapes. Exploration is a big deal too with more structures like better dungeons strongholds and mineshafts plus extra mobs and Ice and Fire creatures.
If you like tech you can build machines with Create and Steam n Rails or go for automation with Industrial Foregoing. Survival stuff is deeper with more food and fishing and animals. Storage and quality of life is stacked too with backpacks storage systems waystones JEI and simple voice chat.
Building is also a big part of it with lots of decoration mods like Macaws Another Furniture and Handcrafted. The vibe is relaxed and more about building exploring and hanging out.

STATECRAFT 1910 is a modded worldbuilding server set around the turn of the 19th century into the 20th. It is built to feel authentic for the time period with a carefully picked modpack and tech that matches the era.
People join to build huge architecture and start nations with real players. There is player led geopolitics and you can lead armies and fight for control.
The server is new so there is lots of open land to grab early. You will need the modpack to play.

Crafttomuck is a modded community that runs a few different servers and they are looking for more players for season 4.
The main server is a survival SMP built around the Create mod with lots of addons. People build cool stuff and hang out and mess with contraptions. There is a shopping district and a gaming district that keeps growing.
They also run a second server that rotates through modpacks that the community votes on. Right now it is running AllTheMons. There is also a creative server on the same modpack as the survival one so you can test machines or plan builds.
The servers are on a dedicated machine in NYC and it is usually at 20 TPS. It is 18 plus and whitelisted and you have to apply and actually write something because they read it. They say they are not super strict but they want people who will stick around.

I found a multiplayer server that runs a realistic hardcore modpack set in a post apocalyptic world. Technology is gone and nature has taken over so it feels like the world got pushed back into the stone age.
The goal is to survive and slowly progress to bring civilization back. Dying is a big deal because you cannot set a spawnpoint. When you respawn it can be anywhere in a 50000 block radius so bases end up spread out across the world.
The pack includes thirst and temperature plus seasons and sanity. It also has physics and enhanced AI with true darkness. There is also random restart and it uses Ytech and Create. The server is included with the modpack so you join through that and help shape the story.

It is mostly vanilla plus with mods like Farmers Delight and Jade and some extra handcrafted style stuff. It also has classes and the Create mod so you can do bigger projects and machines.
Simple voice chat is included. Roleplay and story telling are encouraged but you do not have to do it.
They are using applications so they can pick people who fit the server vibe.

Dopecraft 420 is a decently heavy modded Minecraft server that is looking for more players. Anyone can join and it feels like a chill place to hang out and play.
The modpack leans hard into big mods like Warium Valkyrien Skies Create Mekanism and Biomes O Plenty. So you can mess with machines do tech stuff build wild contraptions and explore lots of different world generation.
There is also optional creative building and it is still a work in progress. It is supposed to get better over time. The owner is also looking for people to help manage the Discord later.
The server runs on Forge 1.20.1.

I found Dopecraft 420 and it is a newer modded survival server that is trying to get more players. People have already started some progress but it sounds like you can still jump in and do your own thing.
The rules are supposed to be few and easy. The modpack is kind of heavy and it leans on mods like Warium Valkyrien Skies Create Mekanism and Biomes O Plenty plus a lot more from the modlist.
Creative building is optional. The version listed is Forge 1.20.1 and they mention a setup where Fabric API shows up because of a sync mod and another mod that lets it work on Forge.
