When you join you must pick a House. Adamant is the hardcore industrial mining and business side. Demeter is the nature and farming group that feels kind of communistic. Theurgy is the magic and research group that acts like greedy sorcerers. Your House actually matters since they control different resources everyone needs.
The world gets harder as players progress. At the start it is normal difficulty. When the first player reaches the Nether the whole world becomes hard.
