Enderrock SMP is a Hermitcraft inspired survival server that is made for players who are 21 or older. It has been running for about three months and the community feels active and really friendly.
The server is vanilla style with some small tweaks that you mostly will not notice. There is a permit based shopping district where players use diamonds as money so you can build shops and trade with other people.
There is a future game district planned plus optional community events and builds. All building styles and all skill levels are welcome so you do not have to be a pro to join.
This is a Bedrock server and you can play from any platform. Voice chat is optional so you can hang out and talk if you want or just chill and type.
The first dragon fight is going to be scheduled over the holiday season which sounds really fun. Overall the server feels laid back friendly and inclusive and it seems like a place where you could actually stay for a long time and make new friends.

Aurora SMP is a small survival server that is all about building a community and sometimes having big wars.
The server is starting fresh with Season 1 on December 15 so everyone begins at the same time. It is a fabric 1.20.1 Java server with some quality of life mods and a dynmap plugin.

Prosperia is a cozy survival server that feels really calm and friendly. When I joined it felt like people actually wanted new players there and that made it easy to start playing.
The server is mostly vanilla but it has custom terrain and cool structures that make exploring feel fresh. You can claim land so your builds stay safe. There are jobs and a player driven economy so most trading happens between players not just with signs from the server.
You can use things like advanced enchantments and a disenchant system plus MCMMO to level up your skills. There is an auction house for selling items and virtual spawners and auto crop planters that make farming way easier. Upgradable hoppers help with farms too.
Combat uses 1.8 style PvP so if you like that older combat style you will feel at home. Overall it feels like a chill SMP where you can build trade and hang out with people who like working together.

This is a Mono SMP lifesteal server.
It is set up around lifesteal so when you fight people it actually matters. Hearts are important and PvP feels tense.

PlatonicMC is a cozy pve survival server where everyone just chills out and builds cool stuff. There is no pvp so you do not have to stress about getting killed by other players all the time.
The server has an economy and shops so you can buy and sell items with in game money. You can also join jobs like mining farming or fishing and get paid while you play. There are pets you can get through their store and fun tags you can show off.
There are vote crates and rewards so if you vote every day you can earn money diamonds and vote keys. The world setup is pretty nice too with a separate mining world for gathering resources a custom world with unique biomes and a pre generated main world that runs smooth.
You can set personal warps and use random teleport to explore. You get graves when you die so your gear is safer and there is mcmmo so you can level up skills as you play. There are custom hoppers for better automation and private chests to protect your items and share them with friends.
The server is pve only and focused on survival with a friendly community. It works on both java and bedrock and it is currently in beta so new players and feedback are really welcome. It feels like a relaxed place to build explore and just hang out.

This server feels like old school Minecraft with no crazy stuff going on. It is a simple survival SMP where you just play the game and explore and try to stay alive.
The community feels really friendly and people seem to actually talk and build together. It is all about creativity and working with others instead of a bunch of weird extra features.
There is an optional proximity chat thing so if you like talking to people who are close to you in game you can turn that on. If you do not want it you can just ignore it and keep playing normal.

Echelon is a custom survival server that tries to stay simple and familiar. It does not need any mods or special client stuff so you just join with normal Minecraft and play. The gameplay is meant to feel like regular survival but smoother and cleaner.
A lot of the server is built around the players. There is a suggestion system in game where you can type a command and write your ideas in a book. The staff looks at these and uses them to improve the server over time.
The server has a command controller that only shows commands you can actually use so you do not get confused. There are NPCs at spawn that explain things and help you reach different parts of the server. One of them can teleport you out into a random wilderness area to start your adventure.
The world is survival focused and nothing is super overpowered. The normal survival loop stays the same and the world behaves how you expect. Endermen cannot pick up blocks so your builds do not get messed up.
There is a clean spawn hub with the info you need when you join. Chat is also connected to Discord so messages are shared between the game and the Discord server. A lot of changes can update live without restarting so the server keeps running while it gets better.

I found this server called Dawnforge and it feels like a chill vanilla style SMP where people actually talk and play together. It is focused on survival and it runs on version 1.21.8.
The server is semi vanilla but it really leans into normal survival gameplay. You just join and play like a regular Minecraft world. The owner says there are daily events and community builds so it sounds like people team up a lot.
The community is friendly and mature and they care a lot about being non toxic. New players get welcomed fast and staff members are helpful so it does not feel like you are joining alone. It feels more like a group that wants a long term world instead of constant resets.
The server works for both Java and Bedrock so more friends can play together. There is no pay to win which is nice because everyone has to actually play the game instead of just buying power.

NvizionMC is a crossplay SMP server that has been open for about a month and it already feels pretty active. There are around 80 people in the community and usually like 15 players on every day so it does not feel empty at all.
The server is focused on simple survival with an economy. You can rent chest shops at spawn and sell or buy stuff from other players. There is a server shop too so you can spend the money you earn. Voting gives you 25 in game dollars each day and you can save it up for bigger things.
You can claim land so your home is safe right away. There is RTP so you can find a spot to build fast. The server also has cosmetics and rank and key giveaways so people who stick around get cool extra stuff.
One of the coolest things is SimpleVoiceChat which means there is proximity voice chat so talking to people in game feels more real. They also have ImageFrames that everyone can use so builds can look more unique.
Overall the vibe is really chill and friendly. It feels like a small but growing SMP where people just want to hang out and play survival together without anything too complicated.
