It keeps things fair since there are no paid ranks and no paid perks. Everyone plays equal and the staff also plays in normal survival mode.
One player sleep is on so one person can sleep and turn it to day for everyone. There are chest shops for player shopping and there are server jobs that pay you for basic stuff like mining fishing or farming.
