BenSMP is a new European survival multiplayer server that is not peaceful at all. It is on a proper dedicated host so it is meant to be more serious than the usual free servers.
On this server bases can be griefed and nobody is ever completely safe. PvP is a big part of the world. You can be a relaxed builder or a full on fighter but you always have to watch your back because other players can attack you and raid your stuff.
Teams and alliances are allowed and also betrayals are normal here. You can work with friends or pretend to then stab them in the back later. It is very much a player driven server where your choices actually matter.
There are no cheats allowed and there are no exceptions to that. The owner wants a fair survival experience for everyone.
The server is still being set up so the community can help shape it. The owner is planning to add simple voice chat and some plugins based on what players ask for. If you want to join a fresh SMP and help decide what it becomes this server is made for that.
