I found a light hearted Minecraft network called The Stash and it feels more personal than the huge servers. It started as a community from SCP Secret Laboratory and it grew into a tight group that actually talks and remembers people.
The main mode is a Towny style SMP built for long term play. They do not plan to reset unless a major world change breaks things. It also has mcMMO and some quality of life stuff.
There is also a classic Skyblock mode where you start your island with a command and build up over time or compete for ranks. If you like building there is a creative plots server so you can test ideas and show off.
For players who want more action there is a combat mode with kits and 1v1 fights plus some PvE focused stuff. The server supports Simple Voice Chat so you can talk to nearby players in game if you use the mod. It runs on version 1.21.11 and it is hosted in Central US.
