I found a modded SMP that two sisters are building together and it feels like it is made for people who want a real community.
It uses a custom modpack called Runic Engine and it has four progression paths that connect to each other. There is mystic stuff with magic and rituals plus mechanic stuff with machines and automation. There is also adventure for exploring and combat and homestead for farming and economy.
The whole point is that nobody has to rush endgame. They want teamwork and shared projects and people helping each other. They also say it is long term and there are no wipes planned. Development is active and changes are based on feedback.
Emberfield SMP is a whitelisted Vanilla+ survival server for Java 1.21.11 and it is launching Feb 18th at 2000 UTC. It is meant to be long term and community driven so people can build and explore together.
The world is planned to last. Their rules say seasons will be at least 6 months and they will use community feedback before changing it.
It has a diamond based economy goal plus Vanilla Tweaks datapacks and Armor Poser. There is also a Timber plugin for quality of life while still keeping it feeling vanilla.
The server runs regular Minecraft events and also non Minecraft game nights. It has Discord to in game chat connected too.
The community is 16+ and focused on being friendly and creative. The rules are clear like no griefing no stealing and no toxicity. It is also built for megabuilds towns trading and shared projects with a trust based honour system.
I found an anarchy server where people can do basically anything but there is one rule and it is no pvp hacking. The owner says they cannot really stop it they just hope people follow it.
The server has a bunch of wild stuff like a nuke and a stab thing plus flame stuff a wolf army and blindness. There is also a railgun that kind of works.
Teams are being added and the owner has a team you can join. If you join you can get a copy of their gear like maces gapples and full netherite with enchants plus a villager trading room. They said there are only a few kits so you gotta be fast.
Disc Realms is a big semi anarchy server that has that old school feel with roots going back to 2013.
It has an active community and dedicated staff so you can get support fast when you need it.
There are weekly events that sound like a lot of action and the season release is happening now.
You can join on Java from 1.8 up to 1.21.x and Bedrock on the latest version.
The Garden SMP is a Java 1.21.11 survival multiplayer server that is built for worldbuilding adventure and roleplay. It uses plugins to add extra flavor while still feeling like survival.
You start with 3 lives and you only lose them through PvP. If you run out you become a ghost and the story keeps going. Players can also bring someone back using a craftable revival book.
Some vanilla stuff is turned off to help roleplay like no Elytra and no Ender chests. This makes travel and building roads and towns matter more and it pushes players to interact.
There are lots of extras like locking chests with keys and making lockpicks to break in. You can set up chest shops brew alcohols and beers and even tame any mob as a pet.
When you join you wake up above the clouds then you stick the landing and go down the Monolith to begin. You can pick a race for your character like elf halfling merfolk giant or human then you wake on the docks of Isla De Viva Eterna. From there you can sail to the mainlands and claim land or live in a town with others.
The vibe is relaxed with optional challenges and it is not pay to win. Staff and mods are active and the community is small but thriving.
