I found EchelonMC and it is a fully custom survival SMP that has been built from scratch. The server is hosted in Canada and it has been in active development for under two months. Minecraft Java 1.21.11 is recommended but older versions are supported.
The whole vibe is long term building and real progression with a strong community. It is not pay to win and they say there are no resets planned. It also is not one of those servers that just throws a big plugin pack at you.
There is a currency called Echelites that you earn by playing like mining farming fishing exploring and building. You can spend it on progression and quality of life stuff.
Protection is a big deal here with advanced land claiming. You get visual borders and a lot of settings like TNT and creeper control fire spread protection raid prevention and more. There are teams too so you can invite friends share access and use private team chat.
There is also auto pathing with speed bonuses that you can toggle. You can list public builds so other players can visit and vote. Graves help protect your items with a timed recovery system. CubeCadia is a progression focused survival server that is made for players who want long term goals and stuff to work toward.
It has upgradeable tools that can level up and some tools let you pick a path as you level them. The server also runs world events like daily bosses blood moons fishing tournaments and rotating challenges so there is always something going on.
Fishing is a big deal here with custom rods a fishing crate and extra farming related content. Jobs are not only for money since they come with abilities that can change how you play.

I found an 18+ Minecraft Java Edition SMP that is starting a brand new world with borders that people can claim.
It runs the ATM10 modpack and it is meant to be long term. The vibe is survival with politics and industry and big progression. People can make factions or nations or clans and try to build power and make alliances.

I found Duck’s Anarchy and it is a no rules anarchy server that stays focused on one thing which is anarchy.
There are no side modes and no safe zones so you can get jumped anytime. People grief raid and fight all the time and traps and betrayal are just normal here. If you build a base it can get found and ruined and nobody is going to save it.
Staff do not interfere with fights and wars and there are no resets that wipe your progress. The world keeps going and players shape what happens.
