Outercraft is a modded SMP with a medieval fantasy theme. The world feels like a big story where all the lore comes from the players. There is a main storyline in the background but nobody forces you to follow it. You can start alone or with friends and decide your own path.
Outside spawn the world is wild and dangerous. As you travel you find player made towns and bases that have their own history. You can join their problems or their allies or even their rivalries. It feels like a living world where players actually shape what happens.
The server started in August 2024 and it is meant to be long term. Player progress does not get reset. Sometimes empty unclaimed land gets refreshed to keep the world looking nice but builds and claimed areas are meant to stay. It feels like a big worldbuilding and roleplay project that will last for years.
There are lots of magic mods so you can study spells and arcane stuff. There are also combat and warfare mods so fights feel more intense. The world generation is upgraded so exploring feels new and the wilderness looks really good. There are mods for farming food and other hobbies too so you can focus on what you enjoy.
The server is about roleplay survival exploration and building a shared story over a long time with a small dedicated community.

Anarchy Network is a semi anarchy Minecraft server that tries to feel like pure survival. It launched on October 11th 2024 and is hosted in New York City in the United States.
The server keeps things super close to vanilla. There are almost no rules and barely any extra commands. There are no map resets no teleport commands and no pay to win stuff. Griefing is allowed and PVP is allowed so you are never really safe. The only special command you get is spawn so people far away can still reach other players.
There are a few small changes to make gameplay smoother. The nether roof is allowed phantoms are removed and only about half the players online are needed to skip the night. The world border is set to two million blocks so there is tons of space to explore and build.
The server is online all the time and you can join on almost any Java version from 1.7.2 up to 1.21.11. The owner recommends joining on version 1.21.10 so things work better.
Even though it is semi anarchy there are some limits. Exploits lag machines duping and spamming are not allowed. Harassment and racial slurs in chat are also not allowed. So you can be chaotic but you still have to respect those basic rules.

This is a survival server called SurvivalMC and it feels pretty relaxed and friendly. It is a semi vanilla style server so it keeps the normal Minecraft feeling but uses some plugins and datapacks to make things nicer to play.
The server runs on version 1.21.11 and lets Java and Bedrock players join together. It has been around since July 21st 2020 so it feels like a long term world that people actually stick with. The owners say it is lag free and that is really good for building and grinding.
There is a plugin called Bluemap so you can look at the world from a map in your browser. That makes it easier to explore builds and see what people are making.

This server is starting a brand new season and it is built around making YouTube videos.
There is an official event day on January 14. That is when the new season really begins and everyone can hop in together.
From what I can see the server is meant for people who want to play Minecraft and also record or be part of videos. It looks like a place where you can join at the start and grow with the world and community.

I found this server called Oasis and it feels like a really calm place to play. It is a small Java survival SMP that has been running for about two years so it does not feel like one of those random worlds that reset every week.
The server is on the latest version and has some neat custom stuff like furniture and a fishing plugin. It is still survival but it has a few extra features that make things feel a bit more fresh.
There is a simple rank system and jobs you can do to earn in game money. It looks like the staff really want it to be a friendly environment where people hang out build cool bases and join in on events instead of stressing about being the best.
