Hardcore SMP is a hardcore survival multiplayer server where you really have to think before you move. It is made for both Java Edition and Bedrock Edition so more people can play together.
The world does not reset and the server is non pay to win. There are no teleport commands to other players. You only get randomtp once plus home and spawn. That is it so traveling and exploring still feel real.
The economy is all about players. Coins come from killing mobs and looting chests. There are no normal item shops owned by the server. Instead players trade with each other using a trading system and an auction house so everything feels earned.
There is a big land claiming system. You can claim land for your base and farms so other players cannot grief your stuff. You can add trusted players to your claim so they can build with you. But if you die your claims get deleted and your land is not protected anymore so every death is a huge deal.
The only rank on the store is VIP and it is cosmetic only. It does not give gameplay advantages. There is also a revive that basically respawns you at spawn in survival again just like starting over on a new account.
If you want a hardcore world with no pay to win and almost vanilla rules but still some multiplayer features this server feels like a good place to try.

Sunset Retreat SMP is a chill survival server that feels like a calm place after a long day. It is made for players who are 18 or older and want a relaxed vanilla style world with just a few extra quality of life features.
The server plays like normal Minecraft but with some smart vanilla plus tweaks. There is Voice Chat so people can talk while they play. There are mob and player heads so you can collect cool trophies. There is a live map so you can see the world while you explore. It also works with Bedrock players and it uses a diamond based economy.
Players can set up their own shops and run the economy themselves. That means you can buy and sell items and services using diamonds. It feels like a small town where everyone knows who sells what.
The owners seem really active and they actually play on the server too. They focus on updating and managing things so the world stays fun and stable. The community is whitelisted so it stays safe and the players are welcoming and inclusive.

Aurora SMP is a small survival server that is all about building a community and sometimes having big wars.
The server is starting fresh with Season 1 on December 15 so everyone begins at the same time. It is a fabric 1.20.1 Java server with some quality of life mods and a dynmap plugin.
From what I can tell the main idea is to make friends build alliances and show off your building skills. The vibe is pretty laid back but there is still room for big conflicts between groups.

This is a Java server that is hosted in the UK and is always online so it is really good for players in the UK and Europe. The server is 16 plus and a lot of the regular players are over 21. It feels like an older chill community that just likes to hang out and play Minecraft for a long time.
The world is all about big themed areas. There are six main themes right now. There is Aztecia with an ancient style like Aztec and Egypt. There is Greenland which is all underground. There is Extora which is a mix of sci fi and magic. There is Latvia which is a medieval theme. There is a Modern area with skyscrapers and city builds. There is also an Asian area with temple style builds.
There are around twenty to twenty five active players and they usually just relax and build huge immersive places. There are no land claims. There is no griefing allowed. There is no PVP. The world is not planned to reset so builds can stay for a really long time.
The server has a few gamerule changes and plugins but they try to keep a vanilla feeling. There is no tp and no home commands. Voice chat mod is required to join so people can talk while they play. If this kind of long term themed world with older players sounds fun then this server is made for you.

This is a wild survival server where there are no rules and no map resets. The world has been running since April 26 2021 so it is really old and full of history and ruined bases.
On this server griefing is normal. People build bases just to see if they can hide them. Other players search for them and blow them up. Cheating is allowed too so you never really know what the other guy has.
It runs mainly on version 1.21 and also lets people join from 1.17 up to 1.21.10 so lots of different clients can play. Thousands of players have joined at least once so there are tons of old paths and random builds scattered around.
If you want a calm friendly place this is probably not it. If you like pure chaos and you do not care about rules then this server fits that style.
