This is a free modded survival server that is running long term and feels pretty active. When I joined it already had a growing community and people actually talk and help each other.
The main world has a big city getting built and it keeps expanding. Players are making shops and running their own economy with trades and deals instead of using mod based money. It feels like players decide how the server market works.
Everyone seems really friendly and they help new players get started on their journey. You can join alone or bring a whole team of friends.
There is also a war idea for the future for people who want to fight and do big battles. If you do not want to take part you can stay safe because claims protect you from death grief and loot stealing so you are not forced into pvp.
The server uses a modpack on the latest version that they mention and the region is Oceania so it is best for players near there.

This is a small All The Mods 9 server that is meant to stay up for around three months or maybe longer. It is for people who like big modpacks with tech and magic and lots of stuff to do.
Some of the mods in the pack are Create Ad Astra Applied Energistics 2 Mekanism Mahou Tsukai and Blood Magic. So you can build machines do magic go to space and make crazy bases.
The server has land claims so other players should not be able to wreck your base. That helps stop most griefing so you can just build and chill without stressing about it.
There is also a tutorial that shows how to set up the mods so even if you never played modded before you can learn how to join. The server is not cracked and the owner will not help people who pirate the game.

This server is called Distant Lands and it is actually kind of scary in a cool way. When you join you do not spawn in some big hub or starter town. There is no safe market or public farm. You just get thrown out into the world totally alone.
The world uses a huge random spawn so every player starts really far apart. It feels like you are the first person to ever step there. There is no easy path or guide. You just walk and try not to die.
The server is vanilla plus so it keeps the normal Minecraft feeling. It has some small quality stuff and better stability but it still feels like classic survival.
Pvp is on and that is a big deal here. Raiding and stealing are allowed and are part of how the world works. There is something called the anarchy clause which basically means you are not protected. If someone finds your base they can fight you and take your stuff.
You have to be super careful with your coordinates. If you share your location it can be the biggest mistake. Friends can turn on you and people you trust can raid you. The server really makes trust feel risky.
If you like starting with nothing and building your own story this place fits that. You can end up as a legend a rumor or just disappear into the world like a ghost. The map is waiting for whoever is brave enough to build on it.

Createverse SMP is a modded Java server that is all about the Create mod and a calm survival world. When I joined it felt like a fresh start because the world is still new and there is not a lot of progress yet.
The world has totally changed terrain in all three dimensions. There are tons of new vanilla style biomes and structures that you can explore. There are also a bunch of Create addons and some extra mods that make machines and adventure feel way more fun.
The server is semi building focused so griefing is not allowed. PvP is only allowed when both players agree so it stays fair and chill. It feels like the server is made for people who want a relaxing but adventurous playthrough where you decide what to do next.
There are useful tools like a minimap and a world map to help you explore. You can use claims and parties to protect your stuff and play with friends. There are multiple performance mods so it runs better plus waystones for fast travel and voice chat to talk in game.
Right now the End is locked until more players join and progress but the owner says it will be worth the wait. Overall it feels like a calm create mod world where you can build explore and slowly shape a new world with other players.

Exodus is a semi vanilla survival server that is all about geopolitics. It is meant more for geopol than for heavy roleplay so you spend a lot of time dealing with nations power and control instead of acting out a character.
The world has a 5000 by 5000 border so resources are limited. This makes trading and deals way more important because you cannot just run forever to find new stuff.
You do not have to be good at pvp to have fun here. You can focus on building cool bases or getting into politics and making alliances and enemies. Different players like different things and the server really knows that.
There are some clear rules to keep things fair. No griefing other people builds. No duping and no x ray. The end and the nether are closed so everyone is stuck in the overworld together. Farms have to be hidden and there are rules made to make pvp better and not super toxic.
The server started pretty recently so there is still room for new people to join and find a spot in the world.

This is a straight up vanilla survival server with no land claims and no teleport commands. It really tries to feel like normal Minecraft. You spawn in and have to walk everywhere and survive on your own or with people you meet.
The world has been running since April 1st 2019 and the overworld has never been reset. That means you can explore super old bases and history that players built over more than six years. It feels like a forever world and they say they want to keep it that way.
PvP and griefing are allowed so you have to be careful where you build and who you trust. There are no factions plugins and no economy stuff. It is just survival with other players the way the game was meant to be played.
They use proximity voice chat with the Simple Voice Chat mod if you want it. It is optional but it makes talking to people nearby feel really cool. The server is optimized so it runs stable and they use anticheat but it is not super in your face. It mainly tries to stop cheaters and keep things fair for normal vanilla players.
